Developed in the late 1960s, when music pioneers such as Miles Davis and Herbie Hancock combined jazz harmonies and improvisations with rock music, funk and R&B, soul-jazz and fusion became the most popular form of jazz in the 1970s. When the musical boundaries were torn down, there was no longer any limit to creativity: jazz merged with soul, funk, latin or disco and became the pulsing heartbeat of a decade.
