Dave Le Reece

Dave Le Reece (aka Dean Butler)

Music was born soul-deep and early with passions raging across every genre that felt right for young Dave, Motown dominating his earliest musical memories. Now, after 25 years playing to those-that-dance, his well tried and tested, diverse sound is always reshaped and delivered live, to suit the crowd. It will include many genres resulting in something rather heterogeneous. In his current sets you can expect heavy afro-beat, french hip-hop, tribal soul, acid house, nu-disco, rock-edits, nu-funk and much more.

As a young idiot, he demonstrated many skills including creating mass confusion in the rave convoys of the late 1980s as well as contributing to “party-people-power” in Tesco's car park on the A14.

After cutting his teeth on the illegal rave circuit, Dave was hungry for more and headed off to the dazzling (head)lights of the M11 in the early 90s where he became a regular fixture at the legendary ‘Moist’ nights (The Gardening Club), recently described by Crack Magazine as “DJ Harvey’s colourful alternative to corporate clubbing”.

This “colourful alternative” had a profound effect on the impressionable young Dave and from here and he bounced his way from a U-Star night to a Peril Party and on to wherever. Soon, he was a mucking in setting up at The Junction in Cambridge at the very bouncy Pump nights. From here, Dave soon progressed to DJing and promoting at a live, experimental night called Delirious with the Idjut Boys, and all-round lovely chap, Micky Seaton.

More DJ spots came courtesy of Pete Edwards followed by a regular spot at Cambridge’s legendary and recently-celebrated Good Times with Paul Darking and best mate, Hoppo (RIP). Soon after, together with fellow redness, Pauly C, Dave created the hedonistic ‘Better Red Than Dead’ which was rammed every month for over 8 years. After moving to Spain for 3 years for some real work and the occasional beach bar gig, Dave returned to the UK and dragged his mates out of semi-retirement to form ‘The Day Release Super Disco’ holding new, quality house parties at the Cambridge Junction and Kuda.

Together with his business partners at Day Release Events, he is now hosting “CAS” Cambridge for head honcho, Colleen ‘Cosmo’ Murphy. These ‘Listening Experiences’ are international sessions, celebrating Classic Albums across high quality Hi-Fi classicalbumsundays.com, on a Sunday with friends. Held at the Hidden Rooms Cocktail Lounge it’s an eargasm and some.

Recently invited to curate 'The Den’ for 12 hours (featuring 10 local DJ’s) at the Green Meadows Festival 2017 this August, Dave Le Reece is thoroughly enjoying his time on ‘Day Release’ with the purpose of getting everyone into a boogie-based, prison-free state of mind, day or night.

Expect anything and everything, starting with these two mixes…
