Generally, techno is defined as a form of electronic dance music that is said to have emerged in Detroit, Michigan during the mid-to-late 1980s,

"Stylistically, techno is generally repetitive instrumental music, often at times produced for use in a continuous DJ set. The central rhythmic component is most often in common time (4/4), where time is marked with a bass drum on each quarter note pulse, a backbeat played by snare or clap on the second and fourth pulses of the bar, and an open hi-hat sounding every second eighth note. The tempo tends to vary between approximately 120 to 150 beats per minute (bpm), depending on the style of techno. " (Wikipedia)

I will be honest my passion for techno is somewhat recent, being over the last two years but again what I have learnt that no matter what general definition is given to techno it is interesting to see how other genres such as house when mixed give different interpretations and explains to a degree why people tend to put techno into one bag and refer to it just as electronic dance music.

After the success of the Deep House Series I thought it was time to look at techno and get an interpretation of this through the Dj.

Kinda privileged to have Jamie de Rooy do a guest mixtape on the techno series. Abit more personal to me on a level as Jamie de Rooy has always been with me and the DJSWORK family from the very start. It has been a while since he did a podcast for DJSWORK and so I thought it could not better a time than to mark the 4th birthday of Wrong. This set was recorded live from his set at Wrong last week. It is hard to believe that his brainchild, club nite in Vauxhall is turning four years young. His idea has always been from the start and to today, about "no pop or commercial music....but underground tech house and techno with a real edge". I am so happy to see this club nite go from strength to strength and still maintain this ethos.

When I asked him to give me his interpretation of techno, he kept it short and succint but straight to the point,

"Techno is adrenaline in musical form"
