That’s how DJ John E describes his sets as a DJ. Never afraid to go too far, his diverse musical selections range from Folk to Techno and everything in between. Growing up surrounded by sounds of 70’s Funk Music (George Clinton, EW&F), European Electronica (Kraftwerk, Tangerine Dream), Soul (Aretha Franklin, Marvin Gaye) synth-infused 80’s music (Depeche Mode, Gary Numan)… all which became infused with his love for early Hip-Hop, Disco and New York/Chicago House Music, John ended up with quite a mixed spectrum of musical influences. Four years of studies at the University under a music scholarship further expanded his musicianship and built a solid musical foundation.

Early DJ inspirations included legendary NY DJ’s Timmy Regisford, Tony Humphries, Marley Marl, Kool DJ Red Alert, Louie Vega and of course The God Father of House Music - Frankie Knuckles.

John started learning the craft in a record store on the Lower East Side of Manhattan NYC in the early 80's.

" I would go into the record store and just hang out for hours digging thru crates of vinyl and listen to music. They actually had a complete DJ setup in the store with 2 turntables and would let me spin and mix for the patrons. I fell in love with the craft and the ability to create my own sounds thru mixing and sampling."

Today, this translates into sets where he selects and infuses together all of the music that he loves best. He is known for seamlessly transitioning and mixing between genres including House, Classic Soul, Hip-Hop, R&B, Disco, Top 40, Techno, Classic Vinyl and Jazz.

" I like to say I'm an I.T. Geek by day and DJ by night. Being a technology professional gives me a path to appreciate and take advantage of the latest digital DJ and music technology. No more lugging around heavy crates of records. It allows me to be efficiently mobile with a lot more tools and power at my fingertips than ever before. "

John is no stranger to the local music scene in Saugatuck/Douglas MI where he currently resides. Though he loves playing in nightclubs and special events, his love for music goes beyond the spectrum of playing tunes.

" My love of music - all genres - drives the passion. As for my sets...it’s all about telling a story musically and taking you on a journey … warming you up then building and keeping you in that groove (what ever vibe that might be) the entire night. Its all about the music and creating the perfect vibe for the audience. "
