Comparative Performances Episode 1

The first in a series of episodes devoted to comparing performances by different pianists of the same work. In this introductory program, Piano Files host Mark Ainley presents five recordings of Chopin's Nocturne in E-Flat Major Op.9 No.2 by five great pianists, all with fascinating but very different approaches, yet all thoroughly musical, insightful, and unique. The program also explores the general issues to do with balancing individual musical expression with respect to the score and the intent of the composer. A fascinating exploration of musical interpretation and great pianism!
