Confessional

Confessional was an art installation created for the 2014 Festival of Live Art at Chapter House, which is the large church-like function space at the rear of St Paul's Cathedral in central Melbourne. The audience wore wireless headphones, and breakfasted on a Medieval banquet after entering a Confessional booth-like space to view video footage on small screens. The voices you hear are actors playing characters gathered from of a series of interviews and outakes, and the background is edited from two separate Catholic Masses that i recorded here in Melbourne. Voices recorded with Neumann U87 > a UA 610B pre. Church recorded with a pair of AKG414's > RME FW400. Written & directed by Penelope Bartlau.
