Zonance - Carnegie (2018)

Zonance (‘zone’ + ‘resonance’) is an electroacoustic soundscape created by composer and sound designer Piotr Nowotnik and commisioned by the Glen Eira City Council for the Storytelling Festival 2018. Sounds captured near Koornang Road in Carnegie have been acoustically transformed and recomposed to attain musical qualities. Mixed with traditional acoustic elements and the sounds of everyday life, Zonance — Carnegie reflects the expanding multicultural horizons of the area.

The piece features numerous elements involving ambient sounds of the region, designed elements of “imagined pre-history”, ethnic/multicultural elements as well as contemporary music derived literally from local birdsongs and ‘music concrete’ of the area of Glen Eira and Carnegie.
