"Whip-Back (( Music That You Can Follow ))"
--Devo & The Beatles vs Sparks--

A spiff-nifty video to be sure, but it's always about the audio, fore & firstmost !

Another "belated bits / greatest hits" . . uploading earler goodies from elsewhere online to hearthis. Originally released 2014.

I'm pretty sure that all us creator-types ( an increasingly large percentage of the online world ) have ideas that come to us in a semi-brilliant flash, get quickly noted for future exploration, then wait their turn for months & months while other projects hold onto their place in line.
Well, yeah . . some brand-new inspirations are so darn hot & hopped-up that they cut right to front and we lift that velvet rope for `em . . show `em straight to the V.I.P lounge where all the Very Impertinent Projects must be !!
This one here, "Whip-Back (( Music That You Can Follow ))" was one that behaved itself patiently . . . accepted sporadic fits of attention every few months . . but once it had gained enough momentum and reached a point where it was maybe 60% filled-in, it wouldn't sit back down or let any others catch my ear !!

And believe me, You . . . there are a few dozen Devo tracks I'd equally Love to work with like this if they'd been available as professionally separated as the Moggs are for this Spudapella . . . ( I can even hear where vocals from "Beautiful World" would've worked on this ) . . but "Whip It" is happily Not one a' those "embarrassing songs a band is best known for". It's truly up there amongst their best !! (( even the red energy-domes used all thruout the video are one a' them "things that too many folks think of first, but still cool enough for me to feature" ))

And I am moved to note, this piece was originally initiated on 10/31/12, leading into all the sporadic progress described in the 1st paragraph above.
I am adding to the notes here on 2/24/14, only a few days after learning of the passing of Bob Casale . . . this is naturally, and profoundly, dedicated to him . . .
Him, and the other Mutato Boys equally . . . :

For those with enough interest in "what's that sample & what are your sources ?", I'll now lay that out in my recently adopted & adapted style of "Initial Appearance On The Timeline' . . . absurdly but enjoyably detailed, and there's plenty of "weird"
fun-ones from my collected sound-effects, for all the background whooshes, washes, and accents this piece seemingly demanded :

00:00 - "Backing loops & links" -="Music That You Can Dance To
[ Club Version ]" -- Sparks

01:04 - 1st use of a dedicated effects track : the phrase that seems to
match Paul singing "it couldn't last" here ? . . . it IS Paul
singing "it couldn't last" here !!
The twirbly flutey synth-like effect from Garageband, called
AUPitch, didn't work on any & all phrases, but this (( and later ones

Whilst randomly watching some of "Dune", online somewhere,
McGill's thundering delivery of "get Back !!" leapt out at me,
and took "Whip-Back", which had been sitting on a back-burner,
into it's next "conceptual realm" . . so-to-say . .
"Hey !", I exclaimed internally . . "finding and gathering various
characters sayin' and shoutin' "get back" could be a touch
this nutty piece could grow with".
You may have noticed I found a few, but this was the first one
. . . which then opened up a whole new can of "Whip-Ass" !

04:31 - "don't dig no Pakistanis" -=from Paul's vocal for the original
version of "Get Back" . . when the lyrics were still reflecting
some social unrest goin' on at that time ( but not no more,
a' course ! )

04:26 - "cackle-laugh" -=O-Bla vocal-bit on the twirbly-track
