Naslee

Deep Central SA   ))   Soshanguve

I am Kealeboga Linford Matlakala and my stage name is Naslee, born and bred in Soshanguve, Pretoria. My uncle would play music almost every day in the morning when he woke up. Gospel and Bacardi, a local subgenre of house music and very famous around Pretoria in the 2000s. We would dance with my then friends playing around the neighborhood. Dancing competitions were a must-attend event, with dance moves ranging from iSekwere-kwere to iSpantsula. My upbringing is deeply rooted in the township of Soshanguve, that is where the music spark was initiated.

2009 to 2014
I was introduced to the house music by Kutlwano, a high school friend. Kutlwano was an avid follower of Deep House and Soulful House, listening to big names such as Kuniyuki Takahashi and Chymamusique making waves in the house music space. Through Kutlwano I was then introduced to other musical artists who shared the same passion. It was Douglas Marota with stage name Maplanka Da Legend who provided lessons on how do mixes using VirtualDJ and provided much-of-the-needed guidance for my learning process.

2014 to 2015
In 2015 I met and built connections with some of the artists I would never have met if it were not for my musical mentor, Kribow Mendez. Artists came in all forms in Kribow’s studio. I met Tiffany Rosebud, Jay Sax, DJ Fortee, just to name a few, this had a positive impact in how I viewed myself as an artist and the journey I was embarking on. In that same year, 2015, we were doing our Matric with my close friend, Paballo Themba known as Pablo Del Musicure. Paballo also had passion for music and together we planned to start a movement in the following year, 2016, after we would be done with our studies. But it was unclear what it would be, a duo or a production group.

2016
Deep Central SA was born, a company I started with Pablo, we hosted events in Soshanguve and places nearby. With this movement we started getting recognized in the local music space, it was important to grow each other so we worked mainly with local DJs and producers especially for our events. Some of the artists I had met through Kribow Mendez were an essential part for getting our names out there and marketing Deep Central-hosted events.

2017 To 2019
At this time things were promising as far as hosting events was concerned, but I knew once-off events were just temporary endeavors that should not be confused for tangible progress. I instead opted for sharing mixtapes with my fanbase that I had built. This would be important for my track record, and I would be proud to had collections of my work in archives. Deep Central SA was then officially registered in the year 2019, I, Naslee and Pablo Del Musicure as its co-founders. I then met Bra Joe form Ga-Rankuwa FM. He provided me with both music advice and life advice, of which I am grateful.

2020
The main highlight of 2020 was working with sis Itumeleng, a radio presenter at SMUFM. She hosted a morning show and would then play my mixtapes, named Impulsive Accurate Melodies at 10:00 every Friday. This was key for Naslee as a brand because the listeners turn into fans. To put it simply, I was a resident DJ. I worked with a few artists like Nubia Soul and producers like Da Lex DJ.
2021
I decided to approach Garankuwa FM so that I can push my music talent and Naslee as a brand and my mentor Kribow Mendez decided to open a recording label to release our music, it is called Deep Central Records. This has about so that more people can recognize our music.
