In the world of Hip Hop there are superstars, legends, Icons….and then there are those who embody all 3 descriptions DMX is one of those MC’s. In Hip Hop culture Earl Simmons aka “DMX” aka “X” was part man-part movement. Hailing from the streets of Yonkers, NYC DMX rose to prominence as one of Hip Hop’s most popular and prolific stars. His raw, aggressive lyrics focus on strength and survival, and reflects how one deals and overcomes the adversity of life on the inner city streets.

DMX came along in a Hip Hop age when lyricism and the “Bling” lifestyle ruled the day. X was the antithesis of that, he was raw, gritty, loud and gave voice to the voiceless from the slums and the ghettos. DMX provided an alternative to the glamorous images and tunes of contemporary rap artists. X proved that lyricism isn’t everything, he was an example that delivery and aggression alone can help you become a force to be reckoned with.

DMX made Hip Hop history in 1998 with his albums “It's Dark and Hell Is Hot” and his immediate follow-up album Flesh of My Flesh, Blood of My Blood. Both albums reached number one on the Billboard charts in their first week, making DMX the first recording artist in music history to have his first two albums reach number one within a year. He proved to be no flash in the pan, going on to break the Billboard chart records again and again. By 2003 he had become the first person to have five consecutive albums debut at the top spot on the Billboard charts. X was a movement.

DMX has always been Hip Hop’s enigma. His success was undisputed as one of the most respected and successful selling MC’s of all time. But, with that success has come a lot of pain and challenge as he had had many run ins with the law and a long ongoing bout with drugs. It remains a mystery a man so talented and has so much to live for seems to be his greatest problem. How he remains alive is one of our present days mysteries. I truly believe that he has a larger purpose to fulfill here…it’s God plan.
