Strangers in the Night (Frank Sinatra) - A cover song of a world-wide hit

"Strangers in the Night" is a popular song credited to Bert Kaempfert with English lyrics by Charles Singleton and Eddie Snyder. The song was made famous in 1966 by Frank Sinatra, although it was initially given to Melina Mercouri, who thought that a man's vocals would suit more to the melody and therefore declined to sing it. Reaching number one on both the Billboard Hot 100 chart and the Easy Listening chart, it was the title song for Sinatra's 1966 album Strangers in the Night, which became his most commercially successful album. Sinatra despised the song, calling it at one time "a piece of sht" and "the worst fc*ing song that I have ever heard." He was not afraid to voice his disapproval of playing it live.

In this cover song I sang the lead vocal and added some background harmonies towards the end, when this ironic "do-be-do-be-doo" starts.

"Strangers in the Night" ist der Titel eines von Frank Sinatra im Jahr 1966 herausgebrachten Welthits und Evergreens, dessen Melodie von Bert Kaempfert stammt. Der Song stieg am 7. Mai 1966 in die Billboard-Charts ein und entwickelte sich zu Sinatras erstem Nummer-eins-Hit in den USA seit 1955 (Learnin‘ the Blues); insgesamt wurden 5 Millionen Exemplare verkauft. Frank Sinatra selbst war trotz des Erfolgs seiner Aufnahme von der Qualität des Liedes nicht überzeugt und sang das Stück live zunächst nur selten, zumeist als Kurzfassung als Teil eines Medleys. Erst ab 1975, und verstärkt seit den späten 1980er Jahren, wurde das Lied fester Bestandteil seiner Konzerte, wo er es dann hunderte Male sang, oft mit ironisch-abwertendem Kommentar.

Bei diesem Coversong habe ich die Hauptstimme gesungen und gegen Ende das heiter-ironische "Du-bi-du-bi-duuu" noch mit zusätzlichen Gesangsstimmen angereichert.
