It Don’t Mean a Thing (Tony Bennett & Lady Gaga) - A swing bigband cover song with Verena Böhm

It Don't Mean a Thing (If It Ain't Got That Swing) is a 1931 composition by Duke Ellington, whose lyrics were written by Irving Mills. It is now accepted as a jazz standard, and jazz historian Gunther Schuller characterized it as "now legendary" and "a prophetic piece and a prophetic title." Probably the first song to use the word "swing" in the title, it introduced the term into everyday language and presaged the swing era by three years. The Ellington band played the song continually over the years and recorded it numerous times, most often with trumpeter Ray Nance as vocalist. Tony Bennet recorded this song in 2014 as a duet with 60 years younger Lady Gaga for the album Cheek to Cheek.

In this cover version Verena Böhm sings the part of Lady Gaga and I do the voice of Tony Bennett. Verena and I are - in contrast to Lady Gaga and Tony - only some 20 years apart.

It Don’t Mean a Thing (If It Ain’t Got That Swing) ist ein Jazz-Standard aus dem Jahr 1931, der von Duke Ellington komponiert wurde. Der Text stammt von Irving Mills. Das Lied wurde nach Ellingtons Meinung berühmt, weil es die Empfindungen ausdrückte, die bei den Jazz-Musikern der Zeit vorherrschten.
