Diamonds and Pearls (Prince) - An 80s cover song with Lisa Noack

Diamonds and Pearls is the thirteenth studio album by American recording artist Prince, and the first to feature his backing band The New Power Generation. It was released on October 1, 1991 and features a hybrid of music styles, from funk, hip-hop, pop, R&B to rock. "Diamonds and Pearls" is also the title track to the album and features the vocals of NPG member Rosie Gaines. The song was a top 10 hit, reaching number 3 in the US and the top spot on the R&B chart.

Lisa Noack sang the extremely difficult part of Rosie Gaines and I did the part of Prince. Btw, I sang all the low notes during a recording session in the morning, as my voice is usually two semitones lower in the mornings. Towards the end of the song, Lisa sings several unbelievably high notes I have never heard live before - breath-taking!

Diamonds and Pearls (englisch für Diamanten und Perlen) ist das 13. Studioalbum des US-amerikanischen Musikers Prince. Es erschien am 1. Oktober 1991 und enthält Songs aus den Genres Funk, Hip-Hop, Pop, R&B und Rock. Das Album avancierte mit 6,3 Millionen Exemplaren zu Prince’ weltweit am zweitmeisten verkauften Album nach Purple Rain. Diamonds and Pearls war am 25. November 1991 die vierte Singleauskopplung aus dem Album. Die weibliche Gesangsstimme ist von Rosie Gaines gesungen, die kurz darauf die Band verließ. Der Song erreichte Platz drei in den US Charts und wurde Nummer eins der R&B Charts.

Lisa Noack hat den außerordentlich schwierigen Part von Rosie Gaines gesungen und ich habe mich an Prince versucht. Die tiefen Töne habe ich übrigens alle an einem Vormittag eingesungen, da meine Stimme dann immer um ca. einen Ganzton tiefer klingt. Gegen Ende des Songs singt Lisa ein unglaublich hohe Stelle mit einem Ton, den ich live vorher von einer Sängerin noch nie gehört habe - atemberaubend!
