I started spinning back in 1999. Through a friend of mine, I got interested in dj'ing. It started by playing some tunes in his basement. Then, at the end of 1999, I got my first mixer and two turntables (the kind your grandpa uses). Not long after, I got my first few shows, at the local youth centre. I continued to practice my technique (something I still do, 'cause you're never perfect and you’re never to old to learn.)After a while, I had enough money to buy a real dj-booth (meaning, a new mixer and some better turntables). It got even better when I won a contest by Pioneer and JIMtv and received a Pioneer mixer and two Pioneer cd-players. I also got to go Ten Days Off, where I met dj X-Ian and Dj Prinz, who both gave me some advice to improve my skills.

In 2003, I started school in Hasselt, where I studied journalism. I started hanging out at Ambiorix, a local student bar. It was there, that I got my first residency. It was DJ Ralf (De wijzen, The Mixx, Café d'Anvers) who gave me my first break, and I played there during a year. Due to lack of time in my lesson schedule, I had to stop playing there. But it was a great experience and a good way to further improve. In that periode I also played a few times at the Starlight Lounge, owned by Miss Bambi. In 2006 I got my secund residency in Le Visocq in Heusden. I really enjoyed it there but I had to quit due to transportation troubles. Since then I have played at a few smaller gigs and X-mos parties. Recently I got to play at Student Take Off at Versuz.

A year and a half ago, my music style started to change. I got more and more interested in playing techhouse and tribal. But Dj Mitch was still being associated with commercial, electro and 90's. That's why I wanted to create an alter ego, named Mitchell Martinez. Since then, I had the chance to play at some great gigs at Café d'Anvers, Shaft, Il Cavo and Shaft.

Today, I'm still spinning. And I'm still trying to improve. Because to me a dj is someone who plays the right music, but also has a perfect mixing style. 'cause: "Music is the answer!"
