This is a podcast of the Ouf of Africa radio show hosted by Mister Coxy on Melbourne's 96.5 InnerFM.

This edition features music from the post war years, a time when many countries were gaining their independence back. The highlife sound was characterised by the European big band tracks of the 1940's and 50's. It was perhaps most famous in Ghana and Nigeria but was played in various styles across the African continent.

Despite the difficult times many countries experienced in the run up to independence, the highlife beat is a happy, joyous one. In these dark days of COVID-19, they sound cheerful and uplifting.

Enjoy the music of great highlife proponents such as S.E. Rogie, E.C. Arinze, Sammy Akpabot & his All Stars, Mahmoud Ahmed and even Miriam Makeba.
