House Mixing Competition 1989 Final Faces Night Club East London 1st Place. Winning this competition had no real prize but as a result I was asked to DJ for the "Run-Tings-Crew" a notorious East London "crew" of very intimidating guys who ran illegal house raves in disused buildings in Bethnal Green, Hackney, Shoreditch and Homerton of which at the time there were hundreds. On the first night I played at one of their gigs at 525 Cambridge Heath Road, between Bethnal Green and Hackney. (Now an office building)... when I went to get paid, it was like a scene from Lock Stock and Two Smoking barrels, a guy with dreadlocks in the roof space, behind a desk laid back with his feet up with 2 pit bulls either side... and he asked me "Who said you could DJ at our gig"... That was the illegal rave scene in the East End of London in 1990-1992.
