An international soundclash of incendiary proportions, Bristol’s Screwloose crew wrap up 2012 with a tempo-flexing five-piece from their Australian contingent Zanetic. A wide-eared wallop of dancefloor fun that embraces every shade of the bass rainbow, if you thought his Neon Black EP kicked royal booty… Wait until you press play on this next level badboy.

‘Symmetry’ is the set piece… Already championed by both Matrix & Futurebound and Fred V & Grafix on Radio 1 and 1Xtra respectively, its gritty, grizzling D&B groove screams and sizzles as former Loadstar Live front man MC Texas spits lyrical with dynamism and clarity. An unforgiving, unrelenting moment of contemporary drum & bass, it comes in three shapes and sizes… The full strength original, an instrumental for the dub-heads and a super-dark-stepper rub from PROGRAM-endorsed LoKo.

Tickling other bass tastes, the EP adventurously shoots its sonic load all over the great city of glitch. A technique he teased us with in January on his last Screwloose release, here we find Zanetic going loco over a slow-and-steady riddim with three different flavours.

‘Blow Up In 93’ is a futureproof party piece that stutters and shuffles with mechanical mischief. Complete with vibrant synth stabs, a cheeky melodic topline and laser-snapping acid, it’s guaranteed to blow any floor it’s treated to.

‘Night Or Day’ ignites with eerie eastern promise and a deep, penetrating bassline. A vocal loop creates the dancefloor call the action then BANG: in comes the swagger as a snakelike b-line wriggles and writhes uncontrollably.

And because Screwloose love you, ‘Space Crunk’ is special freebie for your ears only… Coated in slap-bass panache, it’s a funk-fizzed workout with just the right amount of darkness. With its filtered flare and house-minded tendencies it doesn’t sound dissimilar to an Ed Banger joint, but made in a seedy secluded sex cellar deep in South London.
