This is your second The Border chapter of season 9th !
More than 300 new releases were posted in THE BORDER SESSIONS Group during my 8 weeks break until the beginning of this new season today.
I had to choose and my selection of new releases appearing during this summer was around 100 songs.
I couldn't make a 6 hours podcast of 100 songs so i cut the best summer new releases between the first, and the second episode.
The only different thing between the opening chapter and this one is, the album release of my friend, Ethel Lindsey is scheduled for October 3rd and right now i included 2 songs in my podcast.
Let's talk Ethel about those songs, first one "Together Again" :
It’s a love song about a long-distance relationship — one I wrote on a sunny summer day at the Jardin des Tuileries in Paris, when I was sitting alone contemplating the fountain, the gardens, and those typically Parisian landscapes
I even ran to a kiosk to kindly ask for paper and a pen, because I wanted to write it down on paper — not just on my phone, which I usually use only to save melodies.
For the anecdote: I had been murmuring to myself for weeks the words, “That’s crazy that we’re together again… together again” while holding my lover’s hand, feeling grateful.
True love can triumph over distance. In my humble opinion, this song is just a Soul Funk instant CLASSIC ballad as Maurice White or George Duke could have written for sure and a true masterpiece but let's talk Ethel about the second one "Sore In Your Eyes" :
I probably started this song right after “So Good,” which I had co-written and co-produced in Sparkles. The initial inspiration musically for the main hook was Pharrell Williams — I thought to myself: “This is the kind of track I’d make if I were him.”
Much later I rewrote everything, and the main musical influences behind what it finally became were Rod Temperton, Quincy Jones, Stevie Wonder, Michael Jackson — and of course Off the Wall.
It’s without a doubt an homage to that album, which is so important to me.
Lyrically, I’m willingly ironic — telling the story of all the love I gave to someone who in reality was completely blind and ungrateful toward me. But it all ends well, because I eventually realized it — and once again, I healed. You can preorder the album as LP or digital through bandcamp here :
