M-PeX - Kumulonimbus (feat André Coelho & DJ X-Acto) [Mais Baixo Records]

You know 2016 is getting in shape when the Portuguese "low frequencies" ambassadors Mais Baixo crew is ready to release a new volume of "Portuguese Deep Frequencies" scheduled for March 1st and following the well received 2013 volume 1 of the series. With a long path supporting "all things bass" in national ground and Portuguese diaspora which gave them honours to host an Outlook Festival Launch Party and events with Joe Nice, Wayfarer, Geode, Trashbat or Vilify to name a few, Mais Baixo team reunites now 16 tracks that represent the richness and unique diversity of "Bass" music coming from Luso artists.

We choose "Kumulonimbus" track performed by M-PeX featuring André Coelho on Bass/Double Bass and DJ X-Acto on Scratch and Programming to première because it reflects the always creative way this 3 musicians and producers adopt, for some years now, when it comes to blend traditional sounds with vanguardist electronic approaches specially using low frequencies as an identification for their work.

"Kumulonimbus" could easily be part of ODÝSSEIA double album (2015) or Kardinal EP (2013) since both André Carvalho and DJ X-Acto joined M-PeX on the conception but this track opens even more doors to the restrictive eyes that industry usually looks to the ones that break rules and conventions. The Fado´s Portuguese guitar of M-PeX works as a storyteller, connecting past, present and future under oniric and transcendental layers while we behold the complementing elements in the track painting a superb class act that take us through rhythm history itself since in the same track you can feel the anti-conventional Free Jazz of the 50´s, the cosmic Jamaican Dub elements pioneered in the 60´s the Hip Hop revolution of the 70´s and 80´s with Scratch/Turntablism, the complexity of Mathrock of the 80´s, the Rap-Rock of the 90´s or the Bass music explosion of the 00´s. "Kumulonimbus" is a challenging and cinematic track as the name itself, guiding us through ancient worlds where time and space condenses in a solid and coherent representation. VA Portuguese Deep Frequencies Vol.2 will be out March 1st.
