Music distribution and PR company Pitch Rider turns four this March and what better way to celebrate than to throw a label arm into the mix as well? Pitch Rider has been a champion of underground dance music across all BPMs and genres from the get-go and that’s exactly the approach they plan to adopt with their new endeavour.

“Inside the Ride” can be thought of as a sample of things to come from the label, a musical mission statement of sorts. The 10 track compilation features a mix of UK bass, techno, grime, footwork, dubstep and weirdo club tunes, representing a diverse label that resists being pigeonholed to one genre easily. From Lorenzo BITW and Foxmind’s slowed tribal drum work on “Don’t Mind” to Slick Shoota’s rapid juke freak-out, “Infinity Tap,” all bases really are covered on this compilation when it comes to club-ready music. ‘Eclectic’ is a word that gets bandied about a lot it music reviews and press releases but “Inside the Ride” is a release that truly deserves that adjective with tracks across the musical spectrum and artists spanning seven counties.

Elsewhere on the comp Amsterdam’s Zoltan crafts a seriously angular UK Funky track littered with syncopation on “Dat Insight” and Corticyte delivers a show-stopper of a track with his deconstructed grime number, “Oscillate”. Dehousy’s “Endless” brilliantly show’s off the Parisien’s ear for a great sample and drum pattern.

One of the most exciting things about this compilation is that it really is a sample of things to come. Half of these heavy-hitting acts have been signed up for Pitch Rider Records releases that will come out within the next year and the team are hoping to sign up more from within and outside the bundle of artists gathered together for this release. There may be a lot of competition out there but with their genre-neutral approach, Pitch Rider hopes that it can make a name for itself in a scene that tends to like compartmentalisation.
