Sugar Minott (1956–2010) was an influential Jamaican reggae singer, producer, and dancehall pioneer. He rose to fame in the late 1970s at Studio One by singing fresh lyrics over vintage rhythms, effectively creating the foundation for early dancehall music. Through his Black Roots label and Youth Promotion sound system, he also mentored and launched the careers of numerous ghetto youths, including future stars like Tenor Saw.
