My amazing guest today was born in Lubbock Texas & grew up in Dallas.
He began his artistic career in a dorm room at Tufts University in 1991
as a founding member (& lead singer) of the band Guster. The bands last album,
2024’s Ooh La La, was thier 9th. In the last year, he & the band toured the country on their
“We Also Have Eras” tour, performed sold out shows at the Kennedy Center with the
National Symphony, & premiered their first Tiny Desk Concert on NPR.
He is nothing if not prolific in his creative endeavors: Some examples?
He has helped produce the scores for 14 feature films - including:
In A World, Kings Of Summer, Babes & Safety Not Guaranteed.
That last film mentioned then became an off-broadway musical of the same name
(with my guest today composing the music & lyrics for it). The production had a
5-week off broadway run at the Brooklyn Academy Of Music in 2024
& a second (soon be winding up) 5-week run at Signature Theater in Washington DC.
He also moonlights as a writer (for both The Atlantic & 7 Days), has been a show host
(on Vermont PBS’ “Makin’ Friends With Ryan Miller”) & on ‘The Comments Section’
(which was a weekly variety show with special guests, live music, comedy & conversations
created by Bob Wagner that ran during Covid. He has also dipped his toes into acting:
(as the lead starring in the feature film The Wake) & currently lives in the woods of Williston, Vermont with his wife Angela, his 2 kids & the best dog ever, Sebastian.
And lastly, Guster was name-dropped by Family Guy’s Peter Griffin on an episode where he goes back to college.
Please welcome to todays' show: The multi-talented, magically-haired musician & music lover …
Mr. Ryan Miller
