Gerry Magallan

I'm a husband, dad, IT computer geek/songwriter guy, who plays a guitar, and who loves to sing. Oh, and I'm kinda old. I'm very caught up in raising my kids right now (teenagers, a few of them perform in background vocal and percussion tracks of my recordings.) I give free concerts most evenings in my living room or dinning room. Currently only family members have been attending from time to time, but I'm hoping that will change over time. I like to write and perform songs that make me feel better about things in general. Songs that soothe or lift, and songs that can take me away for awhile. That's what I try to do when I create my music, make it so that I enjoy it! I hope you do too.

Born and raised in Northwest Indiana, I performed as a trumpet player, guitar player, and singer for a variety of bands in the Gary and East Chicago Indiana area throughout the 70's. I studied music formally, and earned a master’s degree in music from Illinois State University. Due to health issues, I decided to focus more on family and a career in IT, I continued writing songs, but stopped performing for more than 30 years before deciding to come back to the stage in 2015.

Musical influences range from singer/songwriters Joni Mitchell and James Taylor, the R&B sounds that surrounded me while growing up in Northwest Indiana, the beautiful Mexican ballads my parents used to sing at home, and the classical and jazz music I studied while in College.
