Forest Rage

Antinacional

Solidarity with all prisoners, and may our friends who sit still in prison in Cologne soon be released. They have done nothing wrong; to the contrary they have shown great courage in standing up to this brown coal-capitalist monster that threatens to destroy the last vestiges of the beautiful ancient forest of Hambach to expand their giant open cast mine. Freedom for the Hambi 4 and for all imprisoned forest defenders worldwide! End the repression targeted brutally on the Hambach Forest, completely out of proportion to the nature of the protest and the good intentions of the people there, whether those who live permanently or others who come to visit.
Please write letters to the 4 in prison, in English, Spanish, or German. Details at abcrhineland.blackblogs.org/ as well as letters received from the prisoners
It is absurd that the State, hand in hand with the company, RWE, goes to such measures, and indeed to such unimaginable expenses, to maintain this structure of repression that seeks to criminalise and almost always punishes resistance, even peaceful, with violence, blows, humiliations.
How can it be that 4 young people have been sitting in the prison for two weeks, just because they peacefully refused to leave the trees to the chainsaws and machines of the company/police? How can it be that there is no sign of an end to this situation, until their court case comes up in perhaps three months?
I ask, is that proportionate to the so-called "crime" they are accused of? Sitting there, locking themselves to the trees or barricades, peaceful but determined not to let the destruction take place. And peacefully they let themselves be cut out, despite much violence against them from the police both physical and verbal, and for that they are supposed to sit in jail for three months?
I can only say that I feel this is a total misabuse of the justice system by corporate interests, working with government and police, to target and oppress the protesters in order to "scare them away" from continuing their defense of the forest.
So we want the message to spread, so that people become aware of these facts, these violent and traumatic experiences with the police, that are happening regularly, the powers that seek to break our spirit, to crush us under a fist of fear and apathy, and then as if that wasn't enough, even to lock us up and take us to court for the cheek of having stood up to their blows, without hitting back ourselves.
And maybe if the message can spread enough, we can put a stop to this dehumanizing situation, and find solutions that honour life instead of this divide and conquer colonialist grab-what-you-can-get mindset.

Solidarity with all beings that suffer this excess of human stupidity and cruelty,
