As I've grown older, I find myself appreciating soul music more and more. Perhaps it's because soul was some of the most raw, emotionally honest music ever recorded that makes it age so well. The very best soul artists held nothing back in their music… their love and aspirations, as well as their pain, sadness, and longing. It's those darker emotions and deeper grooves that I find most captivating - and wanted to capture for this mix project. Co-produced with Just MATTER (my like-minded, crate-digging brother), we crafted a set of vintage soul along with a few modern grooves that still sound like they've been soaking in nostalgia and regret for the past four decades. If love is a battlefield, this mix is an ode to the wounded.
