Estroe Invites January 2017 Nostalgic Mix 1

20 years ago….
1997 was the year I started dj-ing; I was buying a lot of records and practiced every day, making mixtapes to listen to on my walkman and analyzing these before going to sleep, dedicated to improve myself the next day.
My record collection is from the period between 1997 and 2008 (after 2008 I started playing with CDJ’s and later with Traktor and Rekordbox)
So I decided to make a selection from stricktly one compartment in my records cabinet and then make a mix.
I wilI call these mixes ‘nostalgic’. Every records gives me a nostalgic feeling, a flashback, associations, memories.

This first nostalgic mix contains music from roughly 2004-2007.
Memories that flashed through my mind while mixing this selection were:

2004 was an important musical year, I went to Sonar together with Esther Duyn, we attended the Mobilee roof party with Anja Schneider and Sebo K was playing there. The next day I played at a Connaisseur Party and had a nice conversation with Patrick Chardronnet at the diner with all the Connaisseur artists.
I played at Detroit Electronic Music Festival on a Dutch stage together with Joris Voorn, Duplex, Benny Rodrigues, Stefan Robbers, T!m and others. It was such an honor to be part of this selection of artists and see Detroit. I remember going to a small warehouse party where John Beltran played, extra special that he’s done a remix for me this year. (I feel very privileged) I visited the Underground Resistant record store (wow!). And I went to an underground party where Octave One performed, or was it Night of the Jaguar? I forget things 😔
AND I played at Lowlands, a huge popfestival in the Bravo tent which was one of the biggest tents, closing off after (don’t remember, was it Chris Liebing?) and almost shit my pants because I was extremely nervous. The stage manager was so kind to mention that he never met an artist as nervous as me.
My dad joined me that day and we stayed at the artist camping, the next morning we had breakfast with Wannabeastar who had bruces everywhere due to her dj / slash / pole dance act.

I signed my first release on Connaisseur, a label that I had already been following for a few years. After getting the courage to send them my demo they signed ‘Driven’ and even helped me releasing my first album in the years to come.
Of course I remember going to the Amsterdam recordstores where I would meet my fellow dj colleagues and we would gossip and share music.
So much more to tell! But I save that for the next mix.
