I was on a streetcar heading into the studio to work on some new material when I got a text from my adopted brother, Anthony that read "Prince is dead at 57". My world stopped for a moment and suddenly all the great moments I had in my teen years as a learning DJ came rushing back to me. There were three major influences of the MTV generation, Michael Jackson, Madonna & Prince. Now...two of them are gone. Out of the three, Prince was the most influential because he was a self taught musician who actually played all the instruments on his first two albums. He was a hybrid of James Brown, Jimi Hendrix and Little Richard in one. His internal battle of sexuality and spirituality was what made his music so important and relevant. You will definitely be missed, your highness.
