It's no secret that I most cherished the closing hours of those DJ sets I witnessed at 12West and The Saint during my dancing days in the Manhattan nightclub scene of my youth. Referred to in club circles as 'morning music' or sometimes 'sleaze', those last several hours of down-tempo music that played before and during the sunrise into the morning hours were my absolute favorite segment of the typical 8 hour (or longer) program. It was there in those final hours that the songs were so rich with heady sentiment. They flowed much like a roller coaster of emotions, all set to the continual cadence of an easier, slower tempo. I've always favored the sad songs, those lyrics of the broken-hearted, the proclamations of romantic misery, unrequited love and lonely desperation. These were the songs I cherished, their lyrics were the constant friend that nurtured my heart, forever worn on my sleeve. Leaving the club and walking home in the daylight, it was always the downtempo torch songs from the last hours of dancing that carried me home wrapped in their warmth and slipped under the blankets with me after a long night of dancing with my tribe.

So, I've decided to celebrate my love for the final set, the morning music, by starting this series 'Torch Song' with music from the end of the night served-up first. The tempo will climb higher in each consecutive volume. Those that know me well understand that I've never liked being pigeon-holed into playing any one specific genre of music within a set. For me, the joy of mixing is about combining melodies --no matter how varied the selections are, no matter what genre a track may happen to fall into. If it feels good to me, I fearlessly use it. I hope you enjoy this selection of eclectic music I've compiled in this first volume of one hour and fifty continuous minutes.

This set's tempo range is 80 - 100 bpm.
I'd like to suggest you put on your best headphones, recline somewhere cozy and close your eyes after you press play.
