The Monsoon & Mackone ‘Scratching & Mixing’ series were some of the first tapes I did, some being recorded at house parties back in 1991. I wanted to add these mixes to Mixcloud just to show that everyone has to learn somewhere including myself. In my early years of Dj’ing I was more of a scratch mix DJ and didn’t really mix, I’d just scratch the track in and switch to the next one and looking back, I suppose that’s what came naturally being so heavily in to Hip Hop and the style of mixing I grew up listening to.

As time went on Chicago House, Detroit Techno, Warehouse Grooves and Acid House were becoming really big from around 1986 onwards up to the 90’s. I really enjoyed hearing Mixtape’s from my favourite local Hip Hop DJ at the time ‘DJ 3Jaze’ who also had a love for House & Techno Grooves and how mixing them together played a big part of how good you were as a DJ.

The sound quality is not great, I have tried to make the recordings as clear as possible as the originals over time have become muffled and dull. So prepare your self for some early classics mixed on vinyl, be prepared to hear the odd buckle here and there as well as some needle jumping in the mixing (as I mentioned I was still learning), these mixes were done on Memorex decks long before I had or could afford my own Technics, so sit back and enjoy these mixes from the Monsoon Vault.
