DJ Cham (Darren Chamley)
“DJ and Producer of happy vibe hardcore dance music promoting the feel good hands in the air vibe”

This is how DJ Cham perceives himself as both artist and DJ. Promoting the happiest vibe that hardcore dance music can deliver. Having grown up on hip hop beats, 80’s synth pop, acid house and early break beat hardcore this was a foundation for the feel good vibe of his musical selection as he began his journey into hardcore. Funky break beats, rolling pianos, happy vocals, electronic synths, fat stabs and 4/4 kicks featured heavily throughout this journey. Today, DJ Cham never strays too far from the classic mid nineties happy vibe bringing you both the best of the old and the freshness of the new in his mixes and productions.

Cham is no stranger to the ups and down of hardcore music having been humbly involved in the scene ever since its birth. From under 18’s local hardcore nights he began to learn that being both raver and DJ was invaluable, feeling the dance floor vibes and then translating them to his sets made it easy to pick the tracks that people wanted to hear. As the scene peaked in the mid to late nineties, opportunities were getting fairly hard to come by. Cham decided to take time out to focus on his growing family and began to produce his own tracks, teaching himself the deeper aspects of music production. This took him out of his home town of Grimsby to Northern Ireland and eventually to Melbourne, Australia where he currently resides creating and independently releasing tracks in his own style of happy hardcore and presenting his weekly Happy Hardcore and Old School Hardcore radio shows on LazerFM Worldwide online radio.

“Personally it has always been about the happy, rushy vibe of the 1996 hardcore style and trying to keep that vibe alive. As more and more new hardcore music is coming out every year it has become hard to find that vibe in the hundreds of tracks available but have no doubt, that vibe is still out there. You just have to search for it.”
