DJ Byron Bonsall

2015 & 2016 JustCircuit.com Award Nominee.

Growing up in rural Nebraska tends to make one’s musical interest lean a certain way. But even at a young age, Byron knew there was more to music than what he heard on the local country western radio stations. Whenever possible he would change the radio in his dad’s truck to a Top 40 station in Omaha, generating irritated “Who’s messing with the radio?” inquiries. It was in junior high that Byron ...DJ’d his first dance with his cousin. Even then his eclectic taste in music came out (the Star Wars Theme by Meco anyone?). But it wasn’t until he got to college that he discovered a whole new world of music.

After four years as a DJ at his college radio station, as well as stations in the community, he took some time off to manage movie theaters. When he had advanced as far as he could, a decision was made to make a move and career change. Having visited relatives in the Bay Area while growing up, Byron knew that there was only one place where he wanted to go.

Working days as a bartender allowed Byron nights free to check out the local nightlife. To say there is a big difference between Nebraska and San Francisco is an understatement. Closing time isn’t 1 a.m.! Taking in the sights and sounds of such parties as MASS, CLUB UNIVERSE and PLEASUREDOME had a huge impact on Byron. Soon the desire to re-enter the DJ world got the better of him.

Byron has played numerous parties in the San Francisco Bay Area: BOUNCE! (resident DJ), SHANGRI-LA (regular DJ), LAZY BEAR WEEKEND 2013-2015, PLAY T-DANCE (Closing Party of Lazy Bear Weekend 2012), GROWLr, re:PLAY @ ALOFT (regular DJ), BEARS IN THE DARK, EVOLUTION, SUNDAYZ, UP YOUR ALLEY 2011 (Dore Alley Street Fair), UNDERWORLD, FLAGGING IN THE PARK, COLOSSUS PRIDE 2011, ADONIS, SUNDANCE, THICK, INDUSTRY, COLOSSUS HALLOWEEN 2010, CLUB DRAGON, HAIRRISON STREET FAIR, HEAVEN, FURR, BEARRACUDA, and GHETTODISCO to name a few.

He has played at San Francisco's LookOut (resident DJ), The EndUp, The Eagle, Space 550, BeatBox, Rebel, The Sound Factory, Infusion Lounge, The Stud, Temple Nightclub and The Cafe as well as Oakland's Bench and Bar and The White Horse.

Outside of the Bay Area, Byron has spun in Seattle (Cuff Complex and Neighbours), Vancouver (Club XY), Palm Springs (Hard Rock Hotel), Dallas (Station 4), Omaha (The Max) and Manila, Philippines (BED).

Byron’s mix of London club sound to progressive sexy tech house/techno/progressive afterhours has earned him a faithful following and led him to this philosophy, “If you don’t leave with a smile on your face and maybe a little sweaty, I haven’t done my job.” There's nothing better than leaving a club thinking “that was fun!” Byron wants you to think that same way. “Just come in, dance your ass off for a few hours and have a good time. Leave your worries at the door. They'll be waiting for you when you're done. Until then, you belong to me!”
