Chunkabud was one of the resident DJs at the legendary Red Dog club in the 1990s, a club on the corner of North Avenue and Damen in Wicker Park that became an almost satellite for Hollywood and an incubator for Chicago's creative scene. He is a legend of house music and a pioneer in creating music on the Mac computer. Legendary is an overused word but not when it comes to DJ Chunkabud who is part of Chicago's original house music scene. Although not as much of a household name as Frankie Knuckles, DJ Chunkabud is equally important to the progression of electronic dance music, especially in relation to hip hop. With the DJ crew known as United Freaks of America, DJ Chunkabud pioneered the signature Chicago hip-hop sound of speeding up old 'dusty soul' records to change the sound, a signature of Chicago icons Kanye West and the first hip-hop artist to make a serious run for office, Rhymefest.
