Well…to be true, choice was quite easy because 2 artist names came immediately in my mind: EBE and Dana Kelley (aka DKMA, KRIMP, CALLISTO)
Dana was the obvious choice to keep for 2 reasons:
First, he passed away in 2013, so big a loss ! and second, because this Guy had a huge influence on my sound culture when I discovered his tracks back in early 2000’s
We often speak of Larry Heard, Ron Trent, Glenn Underground as the pioneers of Deep House, but we forget to mention Dana…
Maybe it’s because it was impossible to put Dana in a particular genre or sub-genre, so complex was his sound coming straight from outer space…the Guy could either achieve pure House tracks under monikers KRIMP and DKMA, but also intricate Deep House gems full of melancholy and darkness, pushing sometimes the limits to techno tracks on label Catalyst.
Most of his tracks were achieved under label Guidance Recordings and you’ll find bunch of them in this mix.
I’m so proud to have all the vinyls from the Man !
Just listen to Fred P (aka Black Jazz Consortium) and you’ll understand the influences of this great artist I also love.
RIP Dana,I miss you Bro, you’ll always be there.
