LOU HARRISON TRIBUTE - A contemporary and collaborator of both John Cage and Henry Cowell, Lou Harrison, known primarily for his pioneering work with the Indonesian gamelan, essentially invented the modern percussion ensemble with Cage in the 1930's.

At last Saturday night's spectacular tribute at the Indonesian Embassy in Washington DC, the Postclassical Ensemble featured a rare performance of Harrison's “Grand Duo for Violin and Piano."

The unexpected highlight of the evening was its rambunctous finale, a piece for four percussionists composed by Lou Harrison and John Cage, conducted with verve by the PCE's Angel Gil-Ordóñez.
