The opportunity for me to have a mix is quite rare these days for obvious reasons. I try by hook (or invariably crook) to keep up with new tunage which I still avidly collect but when my luck (and the vintage technology) holds out I do find myself often thoroughly confused by the amassed collection of tunes that I have but have not had the opportunity to play. Where to start? Luckily on Thursday I had a friend of mine's 2013 Top Ten folder to play with.

When I first listened to Mr Hodgson's selections I was immediately struck by how complete and complementary the choices seemed and how (perhaps serendipitously) 'set-like' the 10 tracks were. Omegaman aside the other 9 tracks were all new to my dusty old shell-likes and they appeared to me to be absolute corkers (and incidentally quite far removed from what I would under normal circumstances be playing myself these days given the opportunity). Pleasantly surprised would be an understatement of grand proportions.

So with a slight air of cheekiness and liberty taking I sat down and recorded a quick mix of the tracks in a running order that made sense to me. Recorded quickly in one take, pants-flyingly before the MacBook logic board does it's weird, intermittent (and seemingly unfixable) black screen shut -down malarky this then is a Tribute to The Hodgefather and his excellent 2013 selection - the credit for the tune choices obviously being entirely his. And very good they are to imho.

Hopefully you enjoy listening to it half as much as I did playing them (quite loudly) during the recording.
