ONE
Am
You took pity on the dusty shore
Cmaj
You found while wandering,
Gmaj Am
And kept me happy for a while…
Am
You broke the walls that bound me,
Cmaj
Keeping me soundly
Gmaj
Tame -
Am
And you did it in style!

Am
I heard a clamour in the distance
Cmaj
Proclaiming the great wonder
Cmaj Am
That love had stopped by their way.
Am
I have memories of love and lust,
Cmaj
But slowly they turn into dust
Gmaj E7th
As I watch the horizon and play…

CHORUS

Gmaj Am
Is there a word to hail that you’re passing?
Gmaj Am
Perhaps even of me…?
Am
If you look in your mirror:
Gmaj
I’m laughing:
Gmaj Am
‘Cause I’m right where I’m needed to be…

TWO

Might take three hundred years or more
When next you pass by my door
And I wonder just what you’ll see…?
Will I still be remembering
The fires that were ember-ing
My wooden soul to a dream?

I shall try to be softer
When I look to you Brother,
But it’s hard when you act like a Lord!
I can’t help to bleed with children, and families and their livestock
Who’ve coloured your great mighty sword!

CHORUS

Gmaj Am
It wasn’t that which weakened my chains!
Gmaj Am
Your command not leave still remains!
Am
…Written in golden dust -
Cmaj
The moment of love and lust -
Gmaj Am
Lies buried underneath my tear stains…
GUITAR LEAD

THREE
:

That love is not what she thought it was,
And now that’s all because
She’s entered a new phase of life!
In one dream real to waking
All the love you were making -
She felt not like a wife

CHORUS

And now we watch you go on
As you reach and teach every son
To keep her and hold her
To crackle, spit and smoulder
Until the next time he comes along
FOUR

Lover why won’t you stay?
Why must we all fade to grey?
I hear you tell me understand…
“I only have one thing to say,
That you must not go away,
And I hope that you’ll take my hand”…

“There is only one lover
You won’t find another”
He just takes on a name with a smile…
You can follow as he flies away
Searching for him night and day,
But he’s really gone for a while!
CHORUS
Close as the mirror!
Where make-up will wither
Whatever you dream and scheme!
No one can hold him -
There’s only one fire he can bring.
FIVE

Now I’m grateful for my chains and such,
And my husband that I love so much -
I don’t long or wish for you here!
For you never really left my soul!
We’re all one of a bigger whole!
When you left you took away my fear!

CHORUS

Is there a word to hail that you’re passing?
Perhaps even of me…?
When I look in my mirror…
You’re laughing
‘Cause you’re right where you’re needed to be!
SIX
Three hundred years have passed,
And there she sees you’ve come at last -
And watches her fires aflame…
Your command drew her heart away:
She turns to a bright new day
With hope anew to proclaim

Well, this song started long before I even dreamed it!
You are asking if I'm mad or you are asking "How come?"
Well, don't judge before you've read how come.
At the end of 2015, I decided I would go to the karaoke every single Thursday and Sunday.
Eventually, toward the middle of 2016, I was feeling the stresses. Here in my area one doesn't simply 'go out'. It takes special precautions to know one is "SAFE".
Anyways, I'm sure a lot of you understand what that means only too well.
So, I carried on, faithfully singing to my heart's content, and while all this was happening, back at home, Hubby and I were watching the series JUSTIFIED with Timothy Olyphant.
We both enjoyed it very much and it was a highlight of the evening when we had the chance to catch another episode or two, or three!
So, comes an evening when I'm watching a crucial part towards the end of the series, and - whoops, I felt myself fall instantly and deeply in love with the character who Timothy Olyphant was playing - namely Deputy Marshall Raylan Givens!
It was unreal and for weeks I walked on air, rose-tinted glasses perched ready to colour my daydreaming hours!
It wasn't easy to be 'fallen' in love with a character in my mind who seemed as real as any flesh and blood personality inside my soul, and of course, right from the start I resisted, but in the end, succumbed to the headiness of the moment in time!
I was so amazed by all this, that I decided to capture the emotions in a song.
Now, all this is happening, and it's nearing Christmas, and my arms are 'falling off' from the arthritic pains I suffer when using my arms too much - and I had been, almost the whole year, as I helped run the karaoke while I was there!
I also burnt out my stomach by accidentally overdosing on my anti-inflammatory meds, so, I was really sick, plus a cold virus I'd picked up due to my then weakened immune system in the December crowd...
I successfully wrote down the lyrics, crying in pain, as I had to hold my guitar and write with very sore shoulders and arms, and made a rough recording which I sent along to Graeme Robertson, my duo partner in TRONADA.
Graeme later wrote me, after I asked him earlier this year (2017), if we could do something with the song, and he told me that he HAD written but I'd just ignored his email... (He lives in England and I live in South Africa)... I had to explain to Graeme, and myself, that I had been very ill and sick and that I couldn't remember much of how I'd made it through the year!
Anyways, long story short, Graeme took the song under his wing. He gave me the prompting and encouragement to stick with trying to make a good guitar and vocal track, as I still wasn't well enough to manage playing the guitar, but I tried hard and he used what I sent him to put together what you hear now!
Of course, he does the most work! As usual! Graeme is more set up than I am, and far healthier, too!
So, with Graeme doing even the backing, as I got a worse cold around April this year (2017), the song is up!
I did try to put together a video of the original recording I did as best as possible, and it is on my channel on YouTube.
There are some holes in my memory due to not feeling 100 % myself for a long time, but this is the gist of it!
Plus, for the coup de grâce, one of the barmen at the karaoke bar had put up his certificate for something or other on the shelf there, and one day I had a closer look, and almost fell of my stool when I saw that his surname was Oliphant! How's that for a weirdo co-incidence? Freaky!
Hope you Guys and Gals like, love and share this song, as I don't know if EVER something like that will EVER happen to me again!
