Radio What Wave Playlist Aug 2026

This is our first playlist in our new format, not on CHRW, but as a podcast.
In this episode, we play one of my mentors shows, Al Coles’ Young Fast & Scientific’ from Feb 6 1982, with the whole broadcast intact. Big Thanks to Mike Lutz for taping this show. From there we play a few tunes for Dolly Parton, play a few new releases and end with a fave tune of mine.

  1. Gruesomes….What Wave….from Mr Garager’s Neighborhood, Og Records 1989.
  2. Suzi Quatro….Primitive Love…from a self titled release from her 1973 first LP.
  3. Flamin’ Groovies….Let That Boy Rock’n’Roll….from their Shake Some Action LP from 1975.
  4. Secrets…..Pretty Woman…from their 1980 self titled release and from Toronto. This is ¾ of The Viletones going in a powerpop direction. Chris Haigt, Freddy Pompeii and Mike Anderson were joined by former Diode John Hamilton to complete the lineup. If drugs hadn’t got these guys, they would have done so much better.
  5. Eric Burdon Band….It’s My Life….probably from the 1974 Sun Secrets album.
  6. Night City….Summer Eyes….
  7. Wilko Johnson….Keep Both Hands On The Wheel…not sure which Wilko album this is from.
  8. Whirlwind….Rockin’ Daddy…from their 1978 Blowing Up A Storm and from the UK.
  9. Crazy Cavan & The Midnight Rockers….She’s The One To Blame…from their 1985 Crazy Rhythm release. Based in the UK, Crazy Cavan released 5 albums between 1975 and 1983.
  10. Whirlwind….Don’t Be Crazy….from the above mentioned Blowing Up A Storm.
  11. Sonics…..Cinderella….from the 1980 Sinderella that only features one of the original Sonics, Gerry Roslie on vocals and keys. Released in Canada on Bomb Records.
  12. Alex Harvey Band….Vambo Marble Eye….from their 1973 Next release.
  13. Count Bishops….Sometimes Good Guys Don’t Wear White….from their 1977 self titled release. This goes out to Mike Spencer, singer in the band who is presently fighting his fucking cancer.
  14. Roky Erickson and the Aliens….Cold Night For Alligators….from his self titled album that came out in 1980.
  15. Carl Perkins….Put Your Cat Clothes On….a classic that could have come off any greatest hits package.
  16. Count Bishops….. I Need You…from their 1972 self titled release.
  17. Carl Perkins……Boppin’ The Blues….which could have come off any of Carl’s Greatest Hits packages.
  18. Panther Burns….Snatch It Back….from Behind the Magnolia Curtain which came out in 1981 and played London approximately 82/83 at Fryfogles. Only time Panther Burns has ever played here in London.
  19. Panther Burns….Bourgeois Blues….as above and a classic!.

    20.Dolly Parton….Puppy Love….from the compilation Jolie Blonde Rocks’n’Rolls and is from her first single from1958 on the Gold Band label.
  20. Dolly Parton….Girl Left Alone….the flipside of the above single. Dolly was 13 years old when she recorded this single with Little Earle and his band.
  21. Dolly Parton….Travelin’ Prayer….from one of the CD’s that came with the Oxford American magazine, this particular issue was a Southern Music spotlight. This song is from 1999. RIP to Dolly Parton who was one of the really good ones!
  22. The Briefs….Dolly Parton….from their ‘Hit After Hit’ release that came out in 2000. From Seattle and this is their first longplayer.
  23. The Get Arounds….Fuck Around….from their brand new full length that came out earlier this month called Gone Out Tonight. Based in Vancouver and you can find them on Bandcamp.
  24. K-Man & The 45’s……We Won’t Stop….from their Heed The Call that comes out in October on Stomp Records. They were in town on May 13th at Palasad and put on a rip roaring set of tunes.
  25. Cramps…Problem Child….from their just released Gravest Gravy and is a collection of demos from 1977.

  26. Cramps…Hungry….as above but this track has keyboards in it, played by producer Alex Chilton. You can get Gravest Gravy from Bandcamp.
  27. Amy Rigby…..Vote That Fucker Out….found this on Bandcamp a few years ago, no idea where you can get it.

That’s a wrap for this week and will be back in a week or so with more noise to annoy. Probably an all school edition as school is back in session next week here in Canada.
