Radio What Wave Playlist August 20/2026. Last Show

Yep, you read that right, the last edition of Radio What Wave in this format. We’ll probably continue, but in a much shorter format, less often, less time consuming method at: hearthis.at/whatwave/#tracks. This is the place we normally put all of our shows since CHRW doesn’t have archives anymore.
This show has tribs to: Jimmy McLeish (RIP way too young) and Jeff Conolly (RIP) as well as quick looks at the book Young Fast & Scientific The DIY World Of Al Cole (which just won an award), Bill Durst (who won an award) and Thames Rivieras (who finished 2nd in the Rock Category in an international music video).

  1. Gruesomes….What Wave….from Mr Garager’s Neighbourhood, OG Music 1989.
  2. The Thames Rivieras….The Closer I Get…from their recent Optimistic and it really is, as they placed second in the rock category at the recent IMVA (International Music Video Awards) held in Budapest. Not bad for a band that didn’t even get picked in the local awards! Congrats!!
  3. Papa Reuben….Enjoy Anytime…from the recent Enjoy Anytime release on Cartridge Heart out of Toronto. This guy’s been putting out music for over 20 years!
  4. Slow Drags….Hey Hey Hey…from the recent Hipsville 2026 AD compilation that’s been getting a lot of play around here. Recommended!
  5. Dany Laj & The Looks….We’re The Freaks….from the about to be released If Looks Could Kill. We caught DJ & TL at Forked River Brewery on July 5th and had me up dancing the whole second set!. Supposedly they’re gonna be in town next month so catch them if you can.
  6. Rockerati…..Rockin’ Little Angel…brand new single from this combo that reminds me of Dave Edmunds on speed!! They can’t get a gig locally, so we gotta invite them to London from the UK!
  7. Legend Killers…..Rippin’ It Up….from a new single on Yeah Right! Records and they’re back together again. Unfortunately they recently lost new drummer Jimmy McLeish (RIP) so we gotta pay tribute to him with these next 5 songs.
  8. Terminal Wallys…..The New Old School….from the New Old School CD that came out in 2007 and featured Jimmy on the drums.
  9. Terminal Wallys….The East End…..as above and a classic!
  10. Bath Salts….Cool, Like The Music….from their 2016 Mardis Gras release and featured Jimmy on the drums and producing. You’ve probably heard this song on Radio WW before.
  11. Bath Salts….Amelia Earhart… from their Live To Air Aug 2013 that Chris Forrest hosted on his show. Again, Jimmy on the drums and Chris did an excellent job.
  12. Bath Salts….Said Bebe….from their 2021 All The Rage release which Jimmy drummed on. Jimmy McLeish also drummed for; Legend Killers, Disgusteen and Stu McCann & The Tryplanes who did a lot of charity work. RIP
  13. Dictators…..Young Fast & Scientific….from their 1977 Manifest Destiny and this goes out to Steven Frank, author of Young Fast and Scientific The DIY World Of Al Cole which just won an award, winner of the AIGA 50 Books 50 Covers! What that means, is the YF&S book was picked among hundreds if not thousands of books world wide and was selected as one of the 50 best covers in the world!! Cheers Steven!!
  14. Dictators….16 Forever….from the Every Day Is Saturday release on Norton from 2007. A collection of outtakes, unreleased Dictators tunes presented with a huge writeup all about the Dictators.
  15. Flamin’ Groovies….Shake Some Action….from the just released Shake Some Action which also has a second disc of unreleased, demos and who knows what.
  16. Fleshtones…..Soul Struttin’…from the recorded in 1978 but not released until 1982 Blast Off. 50 years of The Fleshtones this year and they had their huge bash a couple of weeks ago. Fleshtones still have original members Peter Zaremba and Keith Streng as well as Bill Milhizer (joined 1980) and Ken Fox (joined 1990) and they are my absolute favorite live band!! First time we saw them was 1982 at one of the big clubs in NYC and we’ve seen them countless times since! They are indeed The Roman Gods!
  17. Fleshtones….Return Of The Leather Kings….form the 1987 Fleshtones Vs Reality, a fave album of mine.
  18. The Mugs…..Goodbye Remember I Love You….from a 1980 single and features Bill Durst (former Thundermug guitarist) who won the Mel Brown Award at the recent Kitchener Blues Festival for his longtime contribution to the blues. Congrats Bill!
  19. Lyres…..I Love Her I Always Will….from the 1986 Lyres Lyres release and goes out to singer, songwriter, keyboardist Jeff Conolly who recently passed. We interviewed The Lyres back in 1986 and glad we did our homework prior.
  20. DMZ….Boy From Nowhere….from Live at The Rat, came out in 1976 and a fave album of mine. Jeff was in DMZ prior to forming the Lyres.
  21. DMZ….Ball Me Out….as above and the 2 songs go together in my mind.
  22. Boy From Nowhere….It’s My Pride….recorded at Mortz’s, early 90’s. One of London’s longest running combos and now you know where they got their name from.
  23. Iron Prostate…..Rock’n’Roll Nursing Home….from the 1991 Loud, Fast And Aging Rapidly which I had to play as it sums up my life.
  24. Cramps…..Wilder Wilder Faster Faster….from a 1991 12” called Eyeball In My Martini.
  25. Cramps….TV Set….from the about to be released (tomorrow on Bandcamp) Gravest Gravy. First legit (meaning Ivy actually gets royalties) Cramps release in ages and get it on Bandcamp as they pay royalties and actually care for their artists unlike spotify, the money grabbers.
  26. Wabi Sabis….Life Makes Me Laugh So Hard….from last year’s Thermonuclear Ignition Of The Soul and recommended you check these guys out live if you get the chance! Recommended!
  27. Brian Jackson….The Revolution Will Not Be Televised…from a 2025 single I found on Bandcamp. Brian was involved in the original 1974 version of this song by Gil Scott-Heron and he updates the lyrics perfectly!
  28. Charles Bradley….The World Is Going Up In Flames…from his 2011 No Time For Dreaming release and kinda sums up Canada at the moment as we’ve got 568 active fires going on as of this writing.
  29. Charles Bradley…..Changes….from the 2016 Changes release and this one always brings a tear to my eye. Charles passed away in 2017, way too young. Fuck Cancer. He was just on the cusp of a brilliant career.
  30. Rattled Roosters…. Hot Rod Girl…from the 1991 7” EP called Next Heart Break ¼ Mile and combines power pop and rockabilly brilliantly! These cats played Call The Office sometime in the early to mid 90’s.
  31. Ray Condo & His Hardrock Goners….Wild Guitar….from their 1988 Hot’N’Cold release and played London several times always putting on brilliant shows!
  32. Frank Ridsdale….Little Red Riding Hood…..recorded here at RadioWW as one of our many live to airs. Frank was right on the money on this one and he still puts on great shows every now and again around London. We did a ton of Live To Airs over 22 years and I listed some on the radio broadcast.
  33. Napoleon XIV….They’re Coming To Take Me Away….from the LP of the same name that came out in 1966 and I remember hearing this on CHUM AM a number of times.
That’s a wrap, 22 years in the making. Special thanks to; Grant Stein (for letting me in the onair to yammer and opening up ideas in my head and training me), Karlo Kaskiala (no idea how to spell his name, but he gave me some encouraging words that got me thinking), Mike Todd (who was co-host for about a year or so), all the bands that did live to airs (these were a lot of work), all the bands that came in for interviews, all the bands that supplied music for the show (there were literally a TON of them), Rena for putting up with all the noise, and You the listener! If it weren’t for the listeners there would be no Radio What Wave….and thanks to anyone that I missed. 22 years over like a flash!
