Street Knowledge

Edinburgh, United Kingdom

Street Knowledge originally started back in 1995 and was run by DJ Kid & KMC, Scotland's indigenous Breakbeat DJs of the time. The night was launched through sheer frustration, as well as a deep-rooted passion to have Breakbeat and the emerging sounds of Jungle and Drum & Bass recognised north of the border.

The first Street Knowledge was held at The Venue in Edinburgh on 22 June 1995 and would see Roni Size make his Scottish debut alongside partner in crime MC Dynamite. City venues were initially unwilling to give the music an opportunity at weekends and despite it being a Thursday the night was hugely successful.
There were three more Street Knowledge events in 1995.

After 12 years when the curtain ultimately fell on Manga, Scotland's most successful and longest running Jungle and Drum & Bass club event, DJ Kid felt there was a void needing filled. With that he re-branded and re-launched Street Knowledge in May 2008.

The first event featured Fabio, Nicky Blackmarket and MC Darrison at the newly refurbished Cabaret Voltaire. Another three events followed at The Liquid Room featuring Andy C, Marcus Intalex, N:Tone and Grooverider.

Unfortunately, the day after the final Street Knowledge on 18 December 2008, the event ended altogether when a massive fire ripped through a neighbouring Indian restaurant to The Liquid Room. Severe internal water damage closed the venue for 18 months.
