Hello, my name is Frank Cable. My music is uploaded under the moniker of "Orionstar", in tribute to my children, Orion and Sophia (la Stella mia).
I live in the Berkshire region of western Massachusetts, home to many great folk musicians, among them James Taylor.

I am a self taught musician and do not read music. I took lessons for about a month when I was 7 and quickly decided that I would rather make music than learn songs. I got my first "real" guitar at age 14-15 and started recording with a Panasonic cassette deck (1978-1979). In college I transitioned to playing electric guitar, but always felt the acoustic guitar was for me. I also played bass for about a month with a short-lived group called "Guise Argyle", this was around 1986 or 1987. After college I stopped playing in groups as a guitar player.

I moved to South Beach in the early 90's and became interested in the congas. I studied with Lazaro Alfonso (no music, just listening) and began playing with a number of roots bands in South Beach as a "gringo" conga player, to the disbelief of many a Latino. In Miami I played with Haitian, Brazilian, Cuban and Jamaican drummers and musicians. I had a brief period wherein I played with the "Drum Society", headed by the now legendary Jude Papaloko Theogenus of Lorya Mistik.

I married in Miami and music stopped for about 10 years until 2007. I bought an inexpensive Martin DX-015, trading in my old Epiphone Emperor. I began to play congas in local Afrobeat groups and also began songwriting for folk guitar. I played an original song in public on the guitar for the first time at age 43, at Club Passim's open mic in Cambridge, MA. Shortly thereafter I began creating original pieces in earnest and started playing at many open mic venues in the valley. I hosted the Yellow Sofa open mic event for two years, largely being involved with sound production, but I would sometimes play a few songs at the close of the evening.

Of late, my energy has turned to making music on Soundcloud and now here at hearthis.at. I have many supportive friends from around the world how encourage me. I write for them- Mark, Per, Peter, Roy, they know who they are- Lovers of homespun and roughewn music. My music has now begun to circle the world, being featured on the Italian website "anti-warsongs.org" for which I take great pride. Many of my songs are about peace, compassion and forgiveness. These are things that we all want within our days, perhaps if we sang more songs of peace with our children the world would be a better place.

I will gradually add songs here, I hope you enjoy them and I hope to hear from you. The only advice I could give a new musician is to create and be proud of the process of making music, not the end result. Some plants may not grow, but some can flower beautifully. There is no logic, only the feeling.
