Hey there, folks! Mark Stoneman here, your host for today's episode. I'm thrilled to take you on a virtual journey to one of my favorite spots right here in Wisconsin—Door County State Parks. As a local and a family man, I've explored these parks through every season, and I'm here to share why they're a must-visit for anyone craving a dose of nature.

Door County is home to five state parks, each with its own unique charm. Let’s start with Peninsula State Park, which I fondly call the crown jewel of Door County. Imagine biking through 20 miles of scenic trails or teeing off at a beautifully wooded golf course. In the winter, those trails transform into routes for snowshoeing and cross-country skiing. Trust me, the sight of the snow-dusted trees and frozen shorelines is purely magical.

Next up is Newport State Park, an internationally recognized Dark Sky Park. This is the place for stargazing enthusiasts. My kids and I love lying under the night sky, watching for shooting stars. It’s a peaceful escape from the city lights where the heavens truly come to life.

Now, if you're a fan of rugged landscapes, you’ll love Rock Island State Park. It's only accessible by ferry, and there are no vehicles allowed, which keeps it wonderfully pristine. When we camp there, it feels like stepping back in time. The stone buildings left by a wealthy inventor are something right out of a storybook.

Then there's Whitefish Dunes State Park, boasting the highest sand dunes in Wisconsin. The beach here is perfect for a family day out, with soft sands and crystal-clear waters. Plus, the historical remains of Native American settlements add a layer of awe to our visits.

Lastly, we can't forget Potawatomi State Park, based around the serene Sturgeon Bay. The fishing here is excellent, and the sunsets? Absolutely stunning. It's a great spot to just sit back, relax, and soak in the tranquility.

Each park offers something special, from hiking and biking to simply enjoying a picnic under the vast, open sky. And whether you're an adrenaline junkie or someone who prefers a quiet corner with a book, Door County’s state parks cater to all.

So, whether you’re planning a family trip, a solo adventure, or a getaway with friends, consider Door County. It's a place where memories are made, where you can reconnect with nature and, perhaps, with yourself too. I’ll be back here next time, sharing more gems from around the county. Until then, keep exploring and keep making those wonderful outdoor memories! Safe travels, everyone!
