Sounds of KoolPhreshGuy

Johannesburg, South Africa

Nhlanhla KoolPhreshGuy Khanyile born 1991 on a Wednesday in January the 30th and in Soweto till boma 2015. Then still residing in Johannesburg South namanje.

Grew up vele in a house, where my folks enjoyed hosting there friends over, the same friends all the time and they had, actually still do have a great taste in music.
Out of all the musical genres my dad made me listen to, I fell deeply in love with house music. This was around grade 4, I am 8 years old at this time, the year is 1999, YFM was bumping nghale skhathi.

Fresh House Flava Vol:1 by DJ Fresh was the first disc I heard, I can take a wild guess and say it was released Last Quarter 1998.
From dah, my dad starts buying ama Cd making me listen. Ngikhuluma Mid-Tempo Millennium Mix Down – DJ Glen Lewis, Africanism, BPM 45 the list goes on. At the same damn time, ngapha Kwaito music is killing too, abo TKZee, Trompies, Alaska, Doc Shebeleza.
2003, it was at the back opposite of my next door, there is a 21st birthday Party. I see the late great DJ Mandla Hlatshwayo, Mavusana, QT ama gents wase Pimville, these gents are bumping real house tunes and spinning the wax. This is the first time I see someone mixing “LIVE” super fascinated by this and the types of music I am hearing. Actually, it’s the same night/morning I heard Daft Punk – One More Time for the very first time it was played after Black Legend – You see trouble with me.

Fast forward grade 9 the year is 2005, I’m now using public transport, however I use iSpecial and the driver of this taxi was blazing house every morning to school and back.
One day I find out that ekhasi someone has access to turn tables and vinyls. That is when I started learning how to play, and was definitely getting better day by day. This time we are exposed to a lot of types of house track like Abyss – Mind Games, albums like Dennis Ferrer – The world as I see it, bootlegs such as Vivian Green - Emotional Rollercoaster (Osunlade Remix) just to mention a few.

Ever since then I have always been a fan and DJ of House Music, it has exposed me to a lot of other musical genres making me a lover of Music. Music to listen to when happy, sad, anxious, excited and even when driving long trips.
Now more than ever I am ready to share my taste and curation with the world, most of all entertain and create memories while I am at it.

Mentionable events played at, Music Garden (Nelspruit) 2018, Crème de la Crème (Soweto) 2019, The Sunday Chill at Rockerfella (2019) and most 101 Entertainment Events.
