Sounds of Indesign Soldier

Croydon, UK

My love of dance music started in the mid 80s when I discovered artists such as Paul Hardcastle, Axel F, M/A/R/S and Jean Michel Jarre. Growing up I was influenced by the electro and breakdance scenes and by the age of 14 hip-hop and dance music was starting to have a profound effect on me. In 1988 the acid house scene stoked my interest further, and for me, started a golden age of music which has influenced my life ever since.

Growing up in Sandhurst near Camberley, Surrey, the London pirate radio stations were too far away to pick up. But in September 1990 a game changing moment in time, Kiss FM became legal. I was finally tuned in to an incredible station that played all the latest underground sounds. The acceleration of my love for music grew 10 fold and by 1991 I fell in love the 'Hardcore' sounds of Rave music. After my 1st rave in Farnborough – ‘Evolution’ I was hooked! The sounds, the lights, the people, the vibes – the peace, love and unity!

My interest in DJing started in 1992 when I purchased one of my first rave 12 inches which was ‘Acen - Trip to the moon, Part II. Shortly after I went in with 2 mates and we purchased a mixer from Tandy and later, realising we needed turntables with pitch controls, we purchased two belt drive SoundLab turntables. After much mixing and clanging and pain staking hours in bedrooms, garages, or wherever we could get the decks set up, we started to improve and get the tunes in time.

Meanwhile by 1994 the vibes had changed, Jungle came into it's own and the scene split in two. It wasn't a hard choice for me & I've been a Junglist ever since!

Favourite Artists: Hype, Rap, Ray Keith, Ed Rush & Optical, Noisia, Digital, Spirit, Bad Company, Rockwell, Bizzy B, Vapour, Jem One, DJ Hybrid, Veak, Conrad Subs, Jon Tetley, DJ Domz, Burr Oak, Tim Reaper, Nicky Allen, Fez the Kid
