Illmatic Deep known as Kopo Motsepe is from a little township called Mmakau, Brits. He then relocated to Ga-rankuwa. He joined the music industry in 2000 when he was in a group called Dithaga Music Project in his primary school days. The group was led by maestros of music namely Lucas Bokaba, the late Professor Kwami & Charles Mugerwa. He started collecting Cassette at an early age before Cd's even existed and he used to love Deep House, Soul, Jazz & Rnb.
He started His DJ Career in 2010 and started producing music in 2013. When not out Deejaying, Illmatic Deep spends his time in the studio producing his own Deep house and Hip Hop music… Except production Illmatic Deep is a manager of Ensemble Marimba Band and part of a band called The Play Experience. The Marimba band helps youth around Ga-rankuwa & Mmakau to gain more skills and knowledge in music. He is not only a manager but plays different roles in the group, like playing Marimba and Percussions as he is willing to learn other types of musical instruments.
His music as a DJ, Artist and Producer is inspired by the biggest DJ's in SA I.e. Black Coffee, Dj Fortee, Chymamusique, Da capo, Playmaster, House Victims, Problem Child etc. And international artists like the maestro Kuniyuki Takahashi, Lars Behrenroth etc. He couldn't do all this by himself so he gained more percussion skills from his brother Tshepiso Bokaba, Production from the late brother Coca Ndima and Deejaying from Thibedi Rakale. He believes that these three maestros are the ones who built him to where he is now and very grateful.
Having spent many years playing at parties, corporate events, clubs (including Tsopi’s place and Lesutu (LSU) where he has been deejaying since 2012), Special events, (alongside local hard-hitters and international acts), Illmatic has had a lot of time to develop his sound and is still evolving. His recent single Free My Mind did well in the industry and he believes it's the one that opened doors for him. The single features artists like Liahmore and the late Coca. He previously released a few singles namely Soweto (The Ghetto), Mountain Hill, Thee Movement and In The Jungle. He is currently working on an EP called Journey which will be out at the end of September 2020. This Ep features artists like Kaylow, Liahmore, Playmaster & Smallistic, Sizwe Blego, Themba M, Tyza Beats, Lua, KompleXity, Nick Veron & Chocky96.
"For me, it’s all about mood and playing those tracks that get you tapping your feet and nodding your head without you realizing it, regardless of genre, tempo, style, or release date. Don’t be surprised when you suddenly find yourself dancing"
