Sounds of AlexFavellOfficialMusic

Alex Favell has been a DJ since 2002 after a brief but purposeful introduction to turntables in the late 1990’s. His love from dance music stems from early memories of hearing Acid House in the late 1980’s and subsequently Jungle/Drum & Bass following some years after with pirate radio. The love for all things Trance was all thanks to Jam & Spoon, not to forget the crossover of popular and dance music in the mainstream generally.

Going into the 21st century the tastes of music delved deeper underground and leaned towards the harder edged sounded of Techno, Hard House and NRG. This was a perfect opportunity to embrace turntables and the art of mixing. Debuting at ‘Nocturnal’ (after hours club based in Leicester), Alex received positive feedback from recent new friends and peers alike. The structure of Hard House helped with understanding dance music and beat matching.

The love of Trance music and the dedication to listen to all realms of the style helped Alex to excel with performances and build progressive smooth mixing techniques. His passion and ability to get lost in the mix lead to sublime atmospheric sets that appealed to the masses. Alex has always been open-minded to electronic music, seeing Trance influences in all that he hears. Adapting performances to incorporate House, Techno, Breaks and Garage has made Alex a more complete DJ. Moving away from warm up sets and being set to play at any time and any event.

Keeping up to date with technology and the advances after the millennia, Alex was enthused and pro actively sought to learn the arts of music production. When the opportunity opened up in 2010, a return to education seemed like the next step to take to realise these aspirations of making music. Completing level 2 and level 3 in Music Technology gave Alex the skills to record, produce and understand music.

Moving into 2014 university called upon Alex to really get more intimately connected in music. The qualifications and experiences prepared for this challenge – Manchester being the location where so much history of electronic music happened.

Looking into the future Alex continues to develop his personal interpretation of music. Utilising many different mediums of music and technology the future looks bright. Teaching is the ultimate goal, however, with the entertainment industry there are so many opportunities to catch as the roles are being created; sound design, performance, blogging and events just skimming the edge of possibilities available.
