ReStructure Mix Update (5/3/26): ”I Fear The Night” – Glenn Rivera ReStructure Mix – Tyree

youtu.be/GuExyFZEXrk

Tyree is a rap artist who released a 1987 house track titled “I Fear The Night” - also featuring his sister on lead vocal under the name of Chic. A fusion of early 80s street-beat and underground house music are blended here in a dub-like arrangement. Electronic syn-drums pound out the robotic feel of this cautionary tale of a woman who finds a reluctance to head out for a night of partying due to her paranoid placement. The vocal is more of a documentary of our heroine's terror of a force which she knows will meet her if she were to venture into the night up to a vibrato of operatic tones. The drums provide the narrative groove in that 80s genre and breaks are as generous as the instrumental.

I have taken the 12” version and dub of “I Fear The Night” and re-administered a new place for this ReStructure Mix. Using the existing drums to recreate the arena in which this innovative piece helped to shape the style of house music during the 80s.
