"Vacua for a Lost Millennium" EP
Zachary Zena Giberson and David M. Paganin
July 2017

Zachary Zena Giberson is a US sound artist living in Austin, Texas. He likes to explore queer themes, dissonance, endless dread, and the strange, blandly homogenizing effects of culture. He has been making music since 2004 at the age of 14, and since then has self-released 21 albums. He has very intentionally never learned how to play any of his own instruments, finding it "far more fun and satisfying to bumble and claw his way through every improvisation". Sonically, nothing is off limits; he has created albums from anything and everything capable of producing sound, from cheap guitar amps to amateur gay porn.

David M. Paganin is an Australian living in West Footscray, Victoria. The expressive musical themes that interest him relate to human freedom in a post-modern world. Such themes include alienation, psychological repression, the existential vacuum, obsession, rage, absurdity, mourning, regret, neurosis, depression, death and the concept of self. All sounds are intended to be ultimately uplifting, affirmations of human vitality and spirit.

"Vacua for a Lost Millennium" is the first collaboration between Zachary Zena Giberson and David M. Paganin. It collides their respective musical styles and thematic obsessions in a juxtaposition that is at once cohesive and dissonant, counterpointed and dislocated, blended and immiscible. The resulting EP is a finely-woven surreal sonic web of contradictions intended to delight and to confound, to energise and to challenge.
