Sounds of Bantu Mchunu

Far Yards   ))   Johannesburg, South Africa

Bantu Mchunu is a retired music producer and creative visionary whose career spanned over 11 influential years in the music industry. Renowned for his soulful blends and genre-crossing sound, Bantu carved out a signature style rooted in Deep House, Chillout, Lounge, Broken Beat, and Ambient. Even in retirement, he continues to mix music in his free time — a passion that helps him relax, connect, and feel deeply present.

As the founder of Far Yards, Bantu has always fused creativity with intellect. He holds degrees in both Law and Accounting, and has successfully balanced his analytical acumen with an artistic soul. His early career saw him not only producing music but also contributing to music blogs and articles, and offering audio engineering, graphic design, and web development services, which he enjoyed immensely as creative outlets.

A legal Music Law Practitioner, DJ graduate, and seasoned Contracts Manager, Bantu also held international roles in tax, sales, and accounting services through partnerships with Qrates and Symphonic Distribution, focusing on the African music market. He has also freelanced for Resident Advisor, leading workshops that empowered artists with knowledge on royalties, label investments, and payout strategies.

Before his retirement in 2022, Bantu travelled extensively, immersing himself in music scenes across Germany, Switzerland, Kenya, Tanzania, Egypt, France, and England. These journeys deeply shaped his worldview and influenced his unique sound — a globally-informed sonic tapestry.

His musical inspirations include a diverse range of artists such as Bonobo, Glenn Astro, Ben Watt, Stimming, Hiatus Kaiyote, Kaytranada, C Y G N, NECK, and NxWorries, among others.

Beyond music, Bantu is a lifelong learner and collector, with a deep appreciation for literature, artwork, and cultural exploration. He continues to enjoy the simple pleasures of life, surrounded by stories, rhythms, and moments that speak to his enduring love for creative expression.
