Back with a Monday morning vibe from a DJ and producer you should know named Al Smith.

From Ireland, Al Smith traces his roots back to the early 1990s in Waterford, cutting his teeth during the formative years of the Irish underground. After establishing himself in the local club and party scene, a move to Dublin saw him becoming a fixture in the city’s thriving Techno landscape, frequently appearing at the acclaimed D1 Recordings nights.

His sound is a blend of various house and techno, heavily influenced by the high-tech soul of artists such as Carl Craig, Kenny Larkin, Drexciya, and Dan Curtin to name a few. While he spent his early twenties honing his craft in the studio, a recent five-year resurgence has seen him return to production with renewed energy.

We first met Al from his release earlier this year with Chateau Chepere ("a near perfect deep house EP" called Sounds and Shapes) but he's also released on international imprints including Downbeat (Spain), Chubby (Australia) and D1 (Ireland). He also shares the passion with his twin brother and acclaimed producer Leonid (Sistrum, Dolly). This mix for 5 Mag is a reflection of a life spent immersed in the deep, rhythmic traditions of the underground.
