Hot off their hit "Diamond" Rhemi provide a 90s style driving soulful house mix for "Spare Me The Details" that keeps sublime vocals of Erik Dillard intact over their trademark swingy groove.
Amsterdam based House head Nachtbraker has released music on Detroit Swindle's Heist Recordings, Apparel Music and Dirt Crew Recordings. He goes straight to floor with his remix of "Feels Good 2 Me" launching in with crunchy messed up beats, warm pads and dubbed out vocals for an epic remix that combines old and new styles.
Here Comes The Sunburst Band (Fouk Remix)
U Make Me So Hot (Daniel Crawford Remix)
Here Comes The Sunburst Band (Original Mix)

Dutch duo Daniel Leseman & Hans Peeman have only been producing as Fouk since 2014 with their debut release for Outplay Records immediately catching the attention of Boiler Room. An acclaimed remix of Lay-Far for Sweden's Local Talk Records and their Kill Frenzy EP for Detroit Swindle's Heist imprint plus more remixes for the likes of Kraak & Smaak and Razor-n-Tape cemented the duo as ones to watch for the future. Now they deliver a remix for Z Records taking the title track from The Sunburst Band's classic 1998 debut album and giving the bassline driven funk cut an energetic jazzy 4/4 makeover.

Daniel Crawford is keyboard player to many a big name including Raphael Saadiq, Mary J Blige and Angie Stone as well as producing and remixing himself. The LA based musician released his debut jazz album titled "Red Pill" in 2012, also producing mix tapes in tribute to J Dilla, Michael Jackson and Fela Kuti catching the ear of the likes of Gilles Peterson. For ZR Daniel reworks another track from the first Sunburst Band debut album, their cover of Barbara Lynn's classic "U Make Me So Hot" giving it a more percussive, bass heavy rework that highlights his imitable keyboard skills.

DJ Reactions:

Tensnake - great stuff, all killer
Hot Toddy - Loving Fouk's stuff at the moment and this remix doesn't disappoint
Opolopo - Loving that Fouk stomp! Daniel Crawford remix is sweet and slinky!
Bill Brewster - Really like the Crawford mix
Mark Farina - nice!
David Harness - I am digging the Nu Disco Mixes
Shur-i-kan - the Fouk remix is the one for me here!
Glenn Underground - Banger's And Real Music
Sean McCabe - Very nice!
Giom - It's all about FOUK! Thanks
Robert Owens - Nice tracks
Reel People - All good stuff here
Ron Carroll - Good Groove
CJ Mackintosh - Nice Remixes but original still doing it for me :)
Julius Papp - FOUK takes it UUUUPP a notch or three!!!!!

Arguably, Dave Lee aka Joey Negro and his Z Records label are the contemporary go-to Disco label. And it was only a matter of time before Mr Lee would delve deep into his vinyl mancave and pull a selection of sound-alike tracks inspired by that late 70s Chic sound.

To date, Chic and their productions have notched-up sales of over 100,000,000, so with that in mind, it comes as no surprise that their music has inspired others to pick up the bass & lead guitar and emulate that groovy sound... and that 's exactly what this album is all about. So here we have it - 'Le Freak Music Inspired by Chic - Complied by Joey Negro'. Fourteen glorious Chic inspired cuts that groove like a Disco train fuelled on 70s Space Dust (remember that stuff kids?)

The 'Le Freak' journey starts with Ann Margret's 'Everybody Needs Somebody', a track truly laden with "that sound" as it's huge string & horn arrangements pay an almost copy-cat like homage to the Edwards & Rodgers sound. And staying on that theme, Delegation's 'Heartache No. 9' and Van Jones' 'Not About That (Show Me Some Respect)' both deliver killer grooves whilst characteristically panning the strat firmly to the left! No sound-alike album would be complete without a cover version, and Charanga 76's 'Good Times (Como Vamos A Gozar)' definitely hits the spot: A Latin Disco-style rework that oozes plenty of cowbell fun-on-the-floor good times, and a flute solo to die for.

Slowing the bpm down we have the rather enigmatic 'Don't Sneak On Me' by the Michael Zager Band featuring Luther Vandross, a track that's soaring backing vocals carry like it was, well, 1979 of course, and the same can definitely be said for Change's 'Heaven of My Life' too. Next-up we have Odyssey's 'Together', the only track on the album that IS produced by Edwards & Rodgers, and one that we thought was well-worth including, for it's obscurity and super slick 80s production values. Moving forward and we hit the contemporary clock, as Ultra Nate's 'New Kind of Medicine' and Joey Negro & The Sunburst Band's 'The Secret Life of Us' both hit the warm compression button, proving that the Disco sound can be perfectly emulated, even when being produced through one of those new-fangled computer devices!

Well, we think you'll agree that Joey Negro has done a sterling job in compiling an album of music inspired by Chic, and one that perfectly captures... "that sound!"

CD Tracklist:

01 Ann Margret – Everybody Needs Somebody Sometimes (Part One)

Sean's "It's Time" album was universally well received in the house community, and rightly so, it was a strong debut featuring an array of talented vocalist and strong songs.

For this EP the tracky 90's style ‘Holding On’ gets reworked by Crackazat who keeps the original vibe adding Smack Productions style keys and his trademark jazzy, warm production to Sean’s original. Crackazat has come to the attention of dj’s including Disclosure, Detroit Swindle and Homework through his releases on Futureboogie and more recently Sweden’s Local Talk where he released his latest album ‘Crescendo’.

Released earlier this year, Atjazz's remix of ‘Reach Out’ feat. Hannah Khemoh was universally well received and supported by Danny Tenaglia, Tensnake, Tony Humphries, Golf Clap, Rainer Trueby and more. Joey Negro has done his own edit of Atjazz's mix focusing on the groove and BV's.

Sean completes the remix package with his own broken dub take on ‘Finally’ featuring vocals from Taliwa.

DJ Reactions:

Tensnake - Atjazz and Crackazat remixes are great, thanks
Louie Vega - Playing the Atjazz edit
Danny Krivit - Nice groove
Rainer Trueby - Crackin' mix from Crackazat
Opolopo - Sweet package! Nice to hear some Broken Vibes again
Mousse T - Wicked, thanks
Reel People - Great Vibes here
Glenn Underground - Dope
CJ Mackintosh - Great EP. Love that Crackazat Remix :)
Audiowhores - Atjazz Remix/JN Edit sounds dope!
Graeme Park - Oh yes, yes, yes!
Richard Earnshaw - Quality remixes...on them all!
Featured Mixes:
Candy Coated Perfection (Pezzner Remix)
Candy Coated Perfection (Pezzner Solar Dub)
The Best (DeejayKul Meets Soultechnic Dub Mix)

One of the killer vocal cuts from the Opolopo album, “Candy Coated Perfection” feat. Sacha Williamson gets a stunning revamp from Dave Pezzner.

There is so much supposedly "deep" house out there at the moment but we feel these remixes really deserve the description. The way he combines the full song with a warm techy bass heavy track works beautifully.

Also included are 2 more dubwise mixes, an extended mix from Opolopo himself and DeejayKul's rework of "The Best" feat. Colonel Red.

DJ Reactions:

Carl Craig – Enjoyable remixes
Hot Toddy - Great release, all quality, the Pezzner mixes are spot on
Rainer Trueby - Really nice package, liking both Pezzner & Deejay Kul's mixes
Danny Krivit - Very cool
Jon Cutler - Great mixes !
Luke Solomon - MASSIVE work by my awesome homey, major love
Moodymanc - Excellent!!!
Giom - Pezzner = yes please! Awesome mixes
Glenn Underground - Very intense and funky dance music
Shur-i-kan - Pezzner knocking out some fine remixes here.!
ATFC - Good stuff thanks

Promo DJ mix from Opolopo that is free to download and free to use on your radio shows...

Opolopo ZR debut album available now on CD and Download from - www.zrecords.ltd.uk/new-releases

iTunes - itunes.apple.com/gb/album/id991149988?mt=1

Opolopo first came to the attention for many as the man behind the genre-crossing house remix of Gregory Porter’s ‘1960 What?’, a tune that finished in the Top Ten of many DJs in 2012. Labeled future jazz by some, it’s only a minor part of the Opolopo story which spans genres like a musical suspension bridge.

Opolopo was born Peter Major in Zirc, Hungary, a short drive away from the beautiful tourist spot Lake Balaton, but spent a large part of his childhood touring around with his keyboardist father, listening to the fusion sounds of Herbie Hancock, Jeff Lorber, Jean-Michel Jarre and Tomita, while finally ending up in his current residence of Sweden. It’s little wonder he’s ended up where he is.

His work, both on remixes and original productions is imbued with a life spent listening to the soul, funk, jazz and fusion of his youth. Yet, while clearly inspired by the past, Opolopo’s work still has enough clank and clamour to suggest its feet are still firmly in the present, whether it’s channeling the sound of a 21st century D-Train, dark, fathoms-deep house or doom-laden dubstep. His reworking of St Germain’s ‘Sure Thing’ suggests someone inheriting Ludovic Navarre own jazz-house crown, while ‘Treat You’ by Omar is underpinned by all sorts of wonkiness while Omar takes care of the topline. His remix and production work has appeared on JVC Japan, Tru Thoughts, Warner Bros, Tokyo Dawn and, of course, Z Records.

Arguably the best way to consume Opolopo is live, where he brings together DJing with an array of gadgetry that suggests an electrified Bob Dylan, switching between playing records, tweaking the vocoder, while still finding time for tasty keyboard flurries in between mixes. You don’t get that with Tiësto.

While Opolopo remixes dart from René & Angela basslines to delicious house music, his album Superconductor, is channeling the ’80s, a decade that has been a constant source of enrichment for the Opolopo sound. Superconductor is firmly built around the song, with many collaborations, among them Keni Burke, Diane Charlemagne, Taka Boom and others. Filleted in between even the tracks seem to a have a stronger purpose than mere fillers. ‘The Run’ sounds like a theme from a long-lost sci-fi programme, while ‘Monolith’ sounds like a tune exhumed from the vaults at Tabu Records. In short, Opolopo is a one man Jam & Lewis.

Opolopo, as you undoubtedly know, is Yoruban for ‘plenty’ and on Superconductor there is a superabundance of sounds, styles and, yes, tunes. Come feast.
Soulmagic are the combined forces of the two Danish producer/DJ’s, Morten Trust and Mikkel Wendelboe who, over the years, have released music on Strictly Rhythm, Soulfuric, Swing City, Purple Music and their own Soulmagic Recordings.

2012 saw them release their biggest hit to date with "Someone Like You" which remained No. 1 on Traxsource for 6 weeks straight. Their combined remix portfolio is also impressive, including artists such as Barry White, Jocelyn Brown, Jon Cutler, Eric Gadd, Ce Ce Rogers, Cool Million, George McCrae, Miguel Migs ft Peven Everett, Jay-J, and many more!

Their latest release for Z Records. ‘Good Love’ features Terri B! who has lent her alto vocal to some of the most credible and noteworthy tracks over recent years.

ZR deliver yet another hi quality disco house banger that's sure to be responsible for a few clubbers bursting out of toilet cubicles and running straight towards the (already packed) dancefloor with their trousers round their ankles

"I Can Feel Your Body Rock" has shades of Gary's Gang, Tony Lee and Softhouse Co, though none of those are sampled or stolen from. The JN Club Mix combines boogie bass, 80s electronics, chopped vocals and old school piano for an energetic stormer which has a lot more panache than most. Whilst the Serious Mix is dominated by a big dub wise proto house bassline, live rattling percussion and lots of D Train-esque synth parts.
Following on from the phenomenal success of the recent “Italo House” and “Remixed With Love” compilation plus more Joey Negro compiled albums including “GoGo Get Down”, “Backstreet Brit Funk”, “Destination Boogie” and the ever-popular Soul of Disco series Z Records continues to release high quality compilations filled with lesser known disco, funk and boogie. Now it’s the return of the highly regarded Under The Influence series with Volume Four compiled by Nick The Record.

From the slow mo disco of State of Grace’s ‘Touching The Times (Dub)’ to the sun-kissed calypso vibe of Boogsie’s ‘Cant You See Me’, Charlie Mike Sierra’s space-disco on ‘On The Moon’ and the more soulful, funk side such as Betty & Beverly Prudhomme’s ‘Tut Tut Twins (Part One)’ and fun(k) disco of cuts like Ronnie Jones ‘Video Games’ we find Nick The Record’s highly infectious selection getting us once more, under the influence.

“My whole life has revolved around records. I was buying Hip Hop and House in the Eighties as it was released and I got heavily into tracing the steps back through breaks and sample sources that were used in Hip Hop records. I also joined the dots between Disco & modern club & House music & spread my music explorations from Rare Groove to rare Disco. There were very few people interested in this vein of music history at the time & even fewer as obsessed as me. So when the re-emergence of Disco exploded I was well ahead of the curve, not only in collecting but historical knowledge. The best thing about record collecting is that it never ends and after 35 years of buying, after 25 years of selling & playing records there is still old stuff to discover & new releases to endeavour to keep up with.”

So as something of an expert in all things Disco, Nick gets quite a few offers to release compilations but as a record obsessive his natural hoarding mentality makes him cautious to give up the goods. As anyone who’s been aware of his record selling website www.djfriendy.co.uk over the last 10 years and his paper sales lists (now that’s old school) for more than 10 years preceding, he could easily put together a compilation of the rarest Disco & Boogie 12 inches, and there are, of course, some of those included here but he wanted to share more than that.

“I feel this ‘Under The Influence’ series offers the chance to put together a more personal comp, which reflects the many different flavours of my taste & my collection & gives you a feel of my DJ style at the same time.”

Zo! feat Erro & Phonte - We Are On The Move (Shur-i-kan Remixes)

The Joey Negro mix of "We Are On The Move" has undeniably been one of the biggest vocal tracks of the year. Now Shur-I -Kan gives the song a much more electronic slant. Yes, very different to the version we know but we think it works bloody well. WOW!!
The fifth release on ZR back in 1991, "Do What You Feel" was the track that really put Dave Lee on the map. The song was one of the anthems of the era and became a Top 40 pop hit when later signed to Virgin/10.

Unlike many classic dance tracks its never been remixed but now we are releasing 3 new updates. The JN Revival Mix keeps much of the original music but beefs up the drums and bass to make for super fat sounding update. Supernova take the track to a stripped back techy direction for bigger rooms. Whilst Steve Mill's remix is a touch deeper but retaining the magic of the original.

DJ Reactions:

Shur-i-kan - Cool mixes!
Martin Ikin - Great to have new mixes of this classic
Luke Howard (HMD) - Stellar job on the remixes
StoneBridge - Oh yes, the memories - awesome update!
Reel People - Dave's Mix for me
Audiowhores - Supernova are on fire at the moment, feeling this one
The Reflex - It's '91 all over again! Revival mix for me
CJ Mackintosh - Love the Revival mix... Just like old times
Faze Action - Very nice indeed. I'm liking the JN Revival mix best
Golf Clap - Wow that is really good. Love this JN Revival Mix
Hed Kandi - Ace!
Kiko Navarro - Steve Mill Remix has the original vibes with a good updated touch
Julius Papp - One of my fave’s from the early 90's house music era
DJ Meme - A Wowzer !!
Paul Trouble Anderson - Like it
Robert Owens - Nice mix
ATFC - Cool thanks

Opolopo ZR debut CD album exclusively available now: http://www.zrecords.ltd.uk/new-releases

iTunes pre-order - https://itunes.apple.com/gb/album/id991149988?mt=1

Come feast.
iTunes pre-order - https://itunes.apple.com/gb/album/id991149988?mt=1

Come feast.

"Reach Out" was one of many killer cuts on Sean's debut album released late last year. Now Atjazz gives the track an energetic bumpin’ remix full of swingy house energy.

Sean's Paradise edit makes more use of the Mr Fingers type techy riff and vocal refrain from the second half of the song, whilst his Extended original is in the timeless deep vocal house territory which we love him for.

DJ Reactions:

Danny Tenaglia – Great, thanks
DJ Spinna - Smashing Pumpkins!!!
Tensnake - Thanks, nice one
Golf Clap - Really nice mixes. Couldn't decide which I liked the most
Tony Humphries - Great song and slammin' remix by Atjazz!
Ralph GUM – Nice
Rainer Trueby - Nice one, thanks!
Robert Owens - Great track, all mixes
Louis Benedetti - Full support. Thanks!

http://www.zrecords.ltd.uk/new-releases

This lush and musical 17-track affair is Sean’s first big solo project and it has been in the works for almost three years. Written mostly in his Bristol studio, the LP features a wealth of international collaborations – Jennifer Wallace, Diane Charlemagne, Renn - and has been made primarily on real hardware such as the Fender Rhodes, SH-09, Juno 106, Poly 61, JV-1010, EMU Vintage Keys and the Moog Slim Phatty.

Sean who has been producing since his teens and includes fine labels like US garage staple King Street Sounds, Defected, Strictly Rhythm and Local Talk in his discography says of the album: “It was important for me to get it perfected to my original vision, and to keep that vision throughout was difficult. I’ve literally drawn inspiration from everything that’s influenced me as producer and writer over the years. I always wanted to create something that demonstrates all my tastes in soulful dance music which can be influenced by so many sub genres like Hip Hop, Disco, Jazz, Soul, Deep House, US garage etc. The NuYorican Soul album has always been a benchmark for me in terms of a perfectly constructed album and is something I never get tired of listening to.”

Those influences shine though in this fantastically musical and deeply considered album: it bares all the hallmarks of a proper full length that has been built from the ground up with fantastic arrangements, catchy vocals and real song structures.

The production values are sky high on this album, and though it might have been a long time in the making, it was worth it, because it categorically proves that now really is Sean McCabe’s time.

http://www.zrecords.ltd.uk/new-releases

Offering a fine taster of what to expect from Sean McCabe’s debut album is ‘Tomorrow’s Another Day’ featuring the crystal clear, neo-soul vocals of Donae’o. The single itself is a sunny, feel-good anthem with swinging drums, soaring vocals and golden chords that warm through minds, bodies and souls.

As well as the original Extended Version there is a Sean McCabe dub which tones down the vocals and buries them amongst glowing pads, twinkling disco melodies and plenty of colourful chord action. The beats still swing invitingly, with extra warm dub undercurrents and frankly it’s the sort of record that is impossible not to love.

The album and ‘Tomorrow’s Another Day’ single are released on Monday 27th October

Originally released back in 2006 Destination Boogie has been one of ZR's most popular and respected compilations. In fact we recently reissued it on vinyl for the first time. There's a lot of crappy edits out there, we believe these Dr Packer reworks are very worthwhile, well constructed new versions that make the tracks more playable for today's dancefloors whilst retaining their boogietastic musicality.

Since the album was released the whole edit culture has exploded so we thought it would be a nice idea to get one of the best, Dr Packer, to rework four of the most danceable cuts from the album.

We at ZR HQ think he's done a great job on these.

DJ Reactions:

Miguel Migs - Some nice jams here, thanks...
Glenn Underground - Yo, this is hot
Luke Howard (HMD) - Excellent job. Well done Dr Packer
Tony Humphries - Nice disco vibes
Groove Assassin - Bullets !!! Every track is a WINNER!
Moodymanc - Straight in the party bag, thanks!
CJ Mackintosh - Nice Remixes :)
ATFC - Love it
Reel People - Great set of reworks
Faze Action - Really playable mixes of some favourites
Julius Papp - You can't go wrong with a Dr Packer edit
Richard Earnshaw - Smashing stuff!
Paul Trouble Anderson - Kool tracks
Hed Kandi - I Am On The Real Side is HOT
Mousse T - Right up my alley
Kiko Navarro - Loving all the tracks!
